Default knocky/rattly noise

Hi guys. Ive a 98 v5 classic. Today the car has developed a knocking rattling noise when its on overdrive. Its fine when your accelorating or driving at a constant speed or idling but once you take your foot off the accelorater it starts making the noise. It isnt the engine its from somewhere on the drive train. Any ideas anyone?

no its on a standard flywheel. i'm not sure that it is the diff but obviously it might be. the bloody cars are so loud when driving them it makes it difficult to hear where the noises are from.lol I think its the front drivers side drive shaft as I jacked the car up passenger side and there is minimal play in the passenger front non int the rear quite a lot in the drivers front with the passenger side jacked up. jacked the drivers side up and the passenger side still had little play, but the drivers front whilst it had less play than with the pass side up still had quite a bit, does that suggest the drivers front shaft to anyone else?
if its the diff what can I dobesides replacing it? how do I change the fluid in the diff?

When driving but only when off the accelerator. But ive just moved it this morning to get my van off the drive and when reversing it was clunking and jerking about. So i now suspect the gearbox?
