Build one.

By the time you've bought a decent second hand bottom end you could have bought all the parts and had it balanced and bolt it together yourself, just avoid costly machine work by getting the right block and crank combo.

I'm going to be bolting one together soon, as long as you do your home work it's really not that difficult.

Engine crane off ebay for £130 and flog it for a ton when your done, or keep it like I did, there's £600+ saved in labour.

Honestly mate if you can take the engine out and put it back in then you CAN rebuild it yourself, I've done it once and it is NOT difficult.

All the info is out there and there is even video for every stage on you tube if you need it, I just used the subaru manuals downloaded off here, and got some tips off the lads at Scooby Clinic.

There is no shortage of people on here that have done it, and there is no shortage of people who will say ooooooohhhh you can't do that with a subaru engine.

unfortunately the oil soaks into the pores of aluminium, making oil soaked aluminium a bit of a ******* to weld, so it's not a completely straight forward job

Where were you fitting the O.T gauge and how did the block break? Any pics?

It might stop others doing the same......
