Default Blobeye vs hawkeye 5speed box strength

Quick question,is a 5speed hawkeye gearbox stronger than a blobeye one? And if so how much extra power can it take?

they are the same - TY754 box is good for 400bhp, but clutch struggles at 350+

the classic one is TY752 and is weaker

So they are a little bit stronger then? Might look into costs of them.as I'm running 350bhp on my blob one an would rather swap it whilst its running good and before i up my power to 380/90.so it doesnt go bang and I can sell it on for a few hundred quid.

If you're talking blob wrx vs blob sti gearbox then no, they're not the same

You want the 6 speed sti box if you're after strength

That's what I'm thinking 2.5 may have had slightly different a ratios to accommodate for difference in torque etc will have to have a look into it now

Not a straight swap, clutch forks, slave cylinders etc are all different, plus the 5th gear ratio is longer on the hawk box.lot of work for a small difference.not worth the hassle

Your WRX box should be ok if your not planning on launching it and exercise some mechanical sympathy, but if your planning on caning it then you need a 6 speed.

Really? One of the mechanics on our club forum said it was longer.still a lot of hassle though for minimum gains really.

WRX 5th is slightly longer than 6th ( 0.756 ) in the STI sixspeed.
Agree, wouldn't change unless you had to.

My uk my00 classic box in on it last legs I think, I'm not looking for power so don't think I need a 6speed. Should I look at newage wrx boxes as they tend to have less miles, anyone know if they fit? Most subaru parts seem to be the same across the models
