Default Buying car from Northern Ireland

I might be going to see an 05 blob in Northern Ireland, just wondering, if go for the car is the procedure the same as here.

Just fill in logbook and drive off?

Best to pay for it too....

Sorry, I couldn't resist that. I've sold cars to folks from NI before and that's essentially what we've done this end. I'm not sure if this helps you much or not though.

Pay the man, and take the log book with you
The seller will(or should)get you to sign a vehicle licensing disposal of vehicle form which he will then send to vehicle licensing NI

I wonder if the blob you're going to see is my old car?

Is it crystal grey by any chance?

For peace of mind you could also ask if the owner is a member of www.scoobyireland.com to see a possible mod history? As urban says pay and take the logbook it'll be grand :-)

Cheers guys, so I take the entire log book, and not just a tear off slip? (just double checking)

i bought mine from a guy on scooby ireland in january mate, it was all fairly easy.

me and a friend flew from glasgow for around £80 total, pre booked the ferry for return with car for £130 total. not sure if you can just turn up with a car? but as the car was a fellow enthusiast and a scooby ireland guy, so i could see alot of history on line and was fairly confident that it would be ok.

The guy picked us up at belfast international, in another car so we could see the scoob from cold
Back to his house, checked over the car, he took us a wee run around, parted with dosh and main part of log book. The log book has to go to NI DVLA.
Job was a goodin

ps, lots of speed cameras on A77

I bought a car from a guy in Belfast - agreed the deal on the phone, flew our and he met m at the airport. I paid cash, drove straight to Larne, got on the ferry and drov home.

I got the right cat for the right price, so all worked out well.

Procedure is the same as the mainland, v5 tear off. MOT was different and the car got issued with a new registration number.
