Default free OBDII software??

Hi I have purchased a wireless ELM connector which I was originally going to use with my Iphone 5 and an app called engine link which I have recently found works great on android phones but apples wifi is restricted so it cannot find the wireless adapter so I'm looking for some software to use on my laptop to work with a 52 bugeye.

Can anyone suggest a good tool?

ah ok so does the bluetooth one actually work as i was told to get the wireless version as the BT one was no good?

I'm not sure if you have to have a jailbroken phone for it to work as you get more features available like wifi and Bluetooth etc, but I could be wrong, that's if you even wanted to do that

There is an way to get Bluetooth ones working on a jailbroken iPhone, but the Cydia app I found to be unstable and I'm not sure it's evan compatible with the most recent iOS 6 jailbrake.

id rather not jailbreak the phone, which is why im just trying to find some software for my laptop to clear a reocurring fault code.

I have a strange problem that occurs only on long trips when i give the car a bit of a boot in 4/5th the management light flashes a couple of times then goes off is i ease off teh throttle but sometimes it stays on and i need to clear the code. havent quite figured out what the issue is yet, the code shows as running lean on left bank so i thought maf, changed that and its still happening so back to the drawing board

I treied a blue tooth OB2 unit and couldn't get it an free ones to work.

I bought an Elm wifi unit and couldnt get that to work with any freebies apple program's Irrc apple you can only connect audio devices via Bluetooth.

So bought Dashcommander from Palmersports and worked straight away. It wasn't cheap T£34 but works.

Haven't done much with it yet.

ive seen some nice readers on fleabay for about £25 might just get one of them i guess, just thought seeing as id bought this wifi unit id try and give it a go with my laptop.

Again if you jailbrake your phone you could download dashcommand for free to check its compatibility before buying as £35 a bit steep if it doesn't work

I have a bluetooth OBDII adaptor & the app I use is called Torque - it's for Android and it is bloody awesome

Adaptor was £10.50

Torque was £2.90 from the Android store

Doesn't work on the Apple iPhone - something I read about Apple devices being funny about bluetooth devices connecting to iPhone

you cant get it to work on a laptop as the way the bluetooth form ports isnt what the software seems to like,
as mentioned no issues with a wireless obd for torque but a few people have had issues with torque and connecting to their ecu on an Impreza,
I recommend a usb version(any vag lead will do) and your laptop will work with Romraider etc for logging and error codes.

Thanks for all the advice guys i think im just gonna buy one of the specific OBD2 readers there only £25 and should clear the prob, until i can figure out whats actually causing it.

Psi3 data monitor is the way to go.
