Looking to Buy NEED advice
Hi Guys, I am a soon to be Scooby owner and join the mass's. I really need some advice from somebody on the below car I'm looking to buy. Everything looks sweet but I am slightly concerned about the fact that the previous owner had the engine stripped and re-biult, is there anything anybody can suggest, is this normal, does it suggest a major engine fault etc. Please help it would be appreciated:

Hi mate and welcome! I'm kind of new to the forum and scoobys myself and can only speak from my own experience. I bought a 2004 WRX that had had an engine rebuild due to big end bearing failure and can say without a doubt it's the best most reliable car I've owned to date. Just depends I suppose on who carried the work out and to what standard. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon. Looks a cracking car tho!!

The 2.5 engine is a known weak spot when increasing power. Its been well documented on here, have a search and read up.
From reading the advert it appears this car has had some work done to prevent that failure. If its been done by a respectable garage and there are bills/receipts to show all work then there is no need to worry.
The car looks good with a decent spec.

Cheers Guys, I will be sure to get the work receipts and find out more details what has been done, is there anything else that you would suggest I should be careful with or look out for

Someone went to see that one here the other week. Can't remember who or when but I'm positive it was that car. Think, well the fact it's still there is a big hint, they walked away for some good reason.
As for the rebuild most hawkeye have had at least the hg done and this is actually a selling point in my opinion as if it's been done right the cosworth hg upgrade and also arp head studs will stop any further issues and a fully forged engine is good for high hp

£11k is a lot of money for that car, £9k would be more realistic and it's not had the rods and pistons replaced which ARE still a weak point, can't understand why they would strip the engine and not do the whole lot, only done half a job IMO.
I'd keep looking, and it's in the higher £500 road tax bracket.
