I haven't driven the new one but the older one was great. The styling of the new one looks nice as well!
However, get ready for the 'don't buy it because its French' brigade!

We're have before Megane 225,awesome car with nice features, great interior, handling is great(on wet you will spin on first 3 gears),but that's it.
If you are looking to modify, you will spend lot more than on Subaru, engine is good up to 320bhp(270lbft torque I wouldn't exceed on those rods),turbo choices and other bits are more expensive than on Subaru, don't expect saving on fuel or etc.,they're so similar to the Impreza
Electric can be the issue on the Megane,we are have few the problems with electric, suspension is good and with right mods is great

i had the R26 ....loved it fast ..stuck to the road ..
then i had the 250 cup ......hated it .. not very quick considering its 250bhp
slightest bit of damp couldnt stop it from wheel spinning .horrible driving position
had the full leather seats ...very uncomftable ..only kept it 12 months then swopped it for the new scooby ..love driving again ....

All i will say is, be very careful about buying one of these, they have paper thin paint, unfinished on some of the panel returns. We had ours only a matter of months before getting rid of it, every time we took it out we came back with another couple of stone chips.
And of course the resale is ****e, but apart from that quite nice.

I like them, chassis is based on the Focus ST. 250BHP and front wheel drive, could be a handful in the wet.

Less common than the ST too.

Nice car I looked at one when the new model came out, instead got a Clio. It was a 200 Cup and a cracking car but unfortunately the Renaults do get tatty quickly, the build quality is awful. I also got through the brakes faster than I got through the front tyres and I'm not the kind of driver who is hard on the brakes all the time.
As a drivers' car it is among the best currently available but you'd probably long for the out and out punch of a Scooby or Evo after a while.
