Default Reverse bonnet vent for pre-facelift cars?

Hey guys,

Someone has asked me to look into making them a reverse RCM style bonnet vent to suit the early pre facelift bonnet.

Making one is one thing, but is there a market for the earlier cars?
Is it worth getting a batch done?
Just wondering?

RCM dont sell them any more and ETS racing have stopped trading. Mine came from ETS....

I paid about 70 sheets for it and its perfect. I think you would sell more facelift than pre facelift.

There was a thread in the for sale section that generated a fair bit of interest - but the OP never got round to making it.

I'd be up for one - didn't know ABW did them

There isn't anyone who makes a pre facelift vented one. As mentioned ETS did do them but they have went under. I had asked Darren from abs a while ago about it but it never materialised.

Its a shame ets stopped trading. They did about 10 different kinds of reverse vents and scoops.

That's a rather large over simplification there Matt. What you're paying for is the design, development and time to make.
So yes, maybe less than a score to make in terms of GRP cost. But that's before you make a model, then the test fittings, then the mold etc etc.

Most people, don't have the time, knowledge or skill to do the above. So the RCM item is priced accordingly. In my opinion.

Frayz I totally understand what your saying. But, which ever way you look at it that is a ridiculous price. I can guarantee the RCM one fits no better than the one im using. Its the same design only mine came from a less well known company. Hence the fact it cost a third of the price. RCM know they can charge crazy money because people pay it, they want that "name" associated with their car.

Branding is there I guess, but then if people want to buy those parts, then it's their money to spend.
Maybe that's why ETS stopped trading and RCM are bigger than ever. Lol

Either way, ill look at it and see. This is for PRE FACELIFT ONLY!

Id have less of an issue with the prices they charge if it was actually rcm who made the products.

But like you say buddy, the fact they are bigger than ever says it all.

Couldn`t agree more Frayz.
Ive been working (on and off) on mine for ages now. Design,(similar to RCM`s)drawing,CAD time, cast making, then the grp, trimming out, fittings,,,it goes on and on. Money spent so far?? LOADS.... And just when you think your there, something else goes wrong. Ive been asked to do one for classic and I`d love to, but I aint got the blobeye one right yet. Here`s a link to mine where the first one on my car has worked. The second one went onto a fellow scoobynetter and one of the slats/vanes collapsed. Its back to the drawing board with regards to resin and fibreglass.
https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...ogressing.html
In my opinion, if anyone can do it, Frayz can. If you proceed matey, all the best..

They make a pretty healthy profit thats all im saying. They dont have the cost of making moulds or design as they dont physically make the items. Other companies produce their products and then fit a nice shiny rcm badge to them.
"Name" makes a huge difference to the price of stuff. I actually had a good look at an RCM back box recently and was far from impressed and even less so with the price. Im pretty sure cobra make rcm's exhausts and just rebadge them.
