Default BOV & Actuators

Hi Guys,

Just looking for abit of information mainly about actuator's can anyone tell me the general purpose of one of these and how they are different to BOV's? Also can you have both a BOV and a actuator? i know it sounds abit nooby but any help would be great

firstly they are two completely different things.. actuators regulate boost pressure the turbo produces. and a bov dumps boost pressure when the throttle is shut off.
so yes you can have both
do a search on here theres lots explaining both.

You will have an actuator fitted as standard, are you referring to a bov and external waste gates

yeah i think the external waste gate rings a bell - sorry to sound noobie just trying to get abit more info on them - i was looking at replacing the standard actuator with this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FMAC4SUB-F...item3f161cc580

whats the difference between this and an external waste gate?

Thanks

Why do you want to change the actuator?

What car have you got and what mods is it running, external waste gate is normally found on car with high power output, the actuator controls the boost and will allow the waste gate to open at a set pressure to keep boost levels in check, you can put a firmer actuator on there but may cause boost creep on certain turbos, as the waste gate won't open until a given pressure, and if the actuator is stiff to open it will keep on boosting to a certain degree which is not always healthy for your engine.

So what ideas do you have that make you think you need a better actuator or possibly an external waste gate? A dump valve / bov as said above has nothing to do with either actuator or external waste gate, its just there to make a noise
If you do get a bov it would be advised to get a decent recirc, but that said your standard item is more than capable

There would be no real gain to be had by changing the actuator IMO just an added expense for something new and shiny my uk blob was 345 running standard vf35 turbo and standard actuator, if your looking at upgrading your turbo at some point then you may want to look at the options you have mentioned, but IMHO i would leave the standard setup alone until you go that route.
what car have you got? And what mods have been done to achieve that power figure you mention?
