Todays newbie
Hi folks,
Thought i had better introduce my self as my latest purchase has now bought me to this forum.
So then, im dan.
Recently agreed with the wife that due to a pay drop i would sell my Mitsubishi galant for a cheap to run more economical and extremely boring and uncomfortable Peugeot 406 HDi.
However, i did bargain into the agreement that i could have a project car to keep my self sane.
After thinking about a 205 GTi or Sierra and many other options, i was offered a CLassic shape sport for just 200 squids.
Needless to say is that i shall be doing lots of body repairs and chasing turbo power over the next few years and i shall at some popint soon be starting a project thread aswell as being on the hunt for various parts.
Cheers dan.

Welcome Dan
Forget about turbo power from a sport, you will have to replace pretty much every mechanical component as what is underneath is completely different to the turbo.
You can supercharge these but you are no where near turbo power with that either so your best bet is just get the car to a decent condition or sell it now and find a turbo as a project.

Thanks for the advise, i am always up for a challange, the engine and box will be pulled out and sold.
I looking at buying a turbo lump to rebuild, i know i could have bought a turbo car as a base but this came up cheap at the right time.
The end project i am hoping will be either a Road legal track car or just a track car which i enter into various events with.
Cheers, Dan.

Thanks all for the welcome,
After considering various peoples input, and doing much investigating, i have settled for the option i had kept avoiding.
As a kid growing up i always wanted a wrc impreza, absolutely loved them.
when the sport came up i found that childish love for them again and wanted to do what so many seem to want or have wanted to do, turbo it.
Now i know the hassle and lack of worth while dropping a turbo into the sport would be i am looking for various doners... im thinking of something reaaly really silly like a 4.2 supercharged Jag v8.... but i will leave the engine and running gear till nearly last as this will give me pleanty of time to hunt about and decide which engine to use as a doner.
Obviously wieght and tunability will need to be addressed.
Cheers, dan.

You have to remember that you will need to replace everything except the shell basically, gearbox and rear diff, the sport has drums the turbo has discs, the clutch is bigger on the turbo, the suspension is different, ecu is different (you may need to replace the loom), interior is different, front brakes are different (4 pots) so economically it is never worth doing because the cost of the parts 2nd hand mean that you will never pull your money back, especially if you do an engine rebuild (no point in going over board with anything too fancy on that front as the gearbox wont take it), its a bit of a money pit so if you are a glutten for punishment then go for it but you wont get any money back on the car (most people avoid turbo conversions like the plague).
