Default Best back box for 05 Sti?

Hello, I've currently got the standard pro drive system on my car but looking for something a little louder but not stupidly loud. I'm only really after a back box at this time as will probably replace the full system when looking for more power in the future.

Anyone any recommendations?

Thanks.

I have a cobra system on my sti and its a loverly sound. Maybe to loud for what u want but they do different styles. They do a track day exhaust. Cobra are the people who make the scoobyclinic exhausts so save yourself 20% buy direct. Revolution exhausts are good quality not to loud when pottering about but when u show it who's boss they make a nice sound. Av had a ninja 2 back box on a previous sti and that was best of both. Louder than standard but by no means stupid loud. Few ideas. Get into YouTube and search impreza exhaust. Plenty vids for ideas on sounds there for ya.

Go for an afterburner vortex backbox that's what I did intially before tuning the car and the car isn't that much louder when you start it up, but has a nice burble sound to her, you'll notice the difference, but its not overly louder just what you want on a everyday cruiser!

Stick with the Prodrive back box, its actually a funny little number, under 4k its pretty quiet but above that it does make a nice noise the trouble is that you as the driver of the car dont really hear is because of the sound proofing and the fact that its at the back of the car and the noise moves away from you but its not overpowering to the pedestrians and it does give a nice sound.

I always thought they were cheap for some reason. av never seen one in real life though. Not a fan of the tip but everyone to there own. Well there is another option open to u. What about going to a local meet and u can hear different exhausts in the flesh. That be my way of doing it

You could polish the burnt bit off with a metal polishing kit, I'm a stainless steel fabricator/welder and thats how we do it.

I'd say go for a Ninja 2. Having owned the Prodrive and now a Nur Spec R, i'd say it's a happy medium. Also I have one for sale really cheap if you'd like to PM me

ScoobyWorld put me full system on 3 yrs ago inc Ninja downpipe/sports cat and Afterburner Vortex backbox. It was excellent quality and sound, but wanted louder without spending big on NurSpec R system. So when Afterburner Raptor backbox came out in August i swapped and sold the Vortex to a guy on here.Raptor is louder (without upsetting neighbours, lol)with a deeper burble on tickover.

Also agree with this. My wrx is fully decatted with a prodrive backbox and is just right for a daily car IMO.

You don't realise how loud it is while your in the car. Get someone to drive pas you while you stand on the pavement and you'll be suprised.

no comment.....

What is the rest of your system at the moment? Have you still got the standard resonated centre section in? I found replacing that for a nonreasonated section made a big difference.

Standard resonated as far as I'm aware. That was gonna be my next point re the non res centre but does that not run the risk of becoming 'droney' on longer runs?

+1 for Milltek, currently full turbo back decat with a small 12" resonator, Sounds perfect on idle and roars at 5k rpm, Out of 6 or 7 different exhausts I've had over the Scooby years it sounds by far the best IMO
