RUN WOT U BRUNG

Well I hope this isn`t going to stir up a Hornets nest, but . . . . .

Having put a post on here yesterday regarding the Run Wot U Brung at Avon Park Speedway this weekend, I am totally gobsmacked that out of 5,627 people registered on Scoobynet only 4 people seem to want to go.

And out of those 4, one is bringing his Motorbike and another his Cossie, leaving a possible 2 Scoobies - 3 including mine

I know that thrashing your Scooby isn`t everbody`s idea of fun (can`t understand why not) and that some prefer Track Days,
but!!!!

So many threads about what to do to make yr Scooby go faster, and yet the majority that I see around are being driven more like Ford Escorts (apologies to Ford owners, but there cr@p)
Come on guys, wots going on ????

Hi Scoop. I can only speak for myself, but 0-60 and standing quarters etc get me worried. Apart from the fact that zero-to-whatever speed is pretty irrelevant to everyday drivers like wot I am, whenever I try a flat-out launch it's just too violent and I'm overcome with mechanical sympathy. When you slam it into second gear it feels like the whole motor is about to part company with the car. Sends expensive shudders down my spine.

Unhappy

Mmmmm . . . . obviously not a popular question judging from the response, maybe hit a raw nerve somewhere . . .

Yes Richard I know what you mean, but it is an Impreza after all.

Scoop,

As a non-Scooby owner, I think that many people are fearful of drag racing or even track days in their pride and joy. The most abuse many Scoobies ever have are maybe a 'spirited' drive along a B-road. And to these owners, that is enough.

Also, quite a few owners have worked/saved hard for their car and the last thing they want to do is to cause major damage with the associated costs.

There there are owners who really drive their Scoobies hard and some get away with it, some don't and face big bills. However, they are really quite happy with this break and fix lifestyle.

Then there are those who just want lots of gadgets, want their cars to look nice etc. Again, they may not be at all interested in seeing quite how strong their drivetrain is.

What I'm saying is that many people own Scoobies, many people own Scoobies for different reasons and many people enjoy them in different ways.

It's life ...

Its just nice to see what the car can do...and legally. No speed Cameras, no cars pulling out in front of you (except for Volvo's ), no pedestrians, etc, etc....

You dont have to kill the car as its just an oppurtunity to see what the car and driver combimation are like.

Isn't that why we like fast cars?

I love any sort of competition, it really gets the adreniline running (if thats how you speel it).
BUT I can understand anyone who dosnt want to take thier everyday car and have a go. Launching has got to be one of the most stressfull things for a car, ervey thing gets a belting an I have knackered many a joint or clutch in my early days when you just had to try !

Good luck to all whos going and look foward to the reports.
