Default Powder coating Engine Block & heads

Had a browse through the search function but cant really find anything that answers my question.

Has anyone powder coated there engine block & heads & then had them machined ??

Just curious as to how the block halves would stand being powder coated then baked as they wont be bolted together etc etc

Just to further a project on my car & will be building another engine but want to smarten the engine up a touch & don't want to paint it.

Cheers in advance

Hi there

I'm not sure if its possible to powder coat the block, but I've seen few blocks of V8 which been powdercoated

or this has been painted with Duplicolor metalcast

Cheers Jura, I have a spare set of casings & 2 dual avcs heads lying which I may just pop to the powder coaters, See if I can get his opinion. I was more concerned about the structural integrity with it being baked at high temperature.

What you want is the paint they use for commercial vehicles
Not the body work paint
What they use on the chassis & engine
Most decent size haulage company's have there trucks painted in there livary
The paint is very robust , but also looks smooth to the eye
All colours are available
It's as simple as that

Shaun, my wife has a FN2 Type R and loves it. Build quality is good and the interior is brilliant, one of the lads at work has bought the same shape cooking model and rates it too, interior is more or less the same others than the seats.

Its not something i would do, are you going to be sure you get all the blast media out the block, & particurly the heads, best of luck with that.

i wouldnt risk powdercoating my engine block, if any of the powdercoating or sand from the blasting process gets in the oil galleries and is not cleaned out properly it'll ruin the engine when it goes back together and is started up, someone i know from another forum powdercoated his inlet manifold and although he thought he cleaned it all out properly when he fitted the manifold and started the engine up it sucked the crap that was hiding into the lump and ruined his fresh fully forged build, the guy was absolutely gutted.

The commercial paint I mentioned dosnt need cooked in oven or blasted first / it goes directly to metal no probs
Obviously the cleaner the metal the better the job
But on a whole it's a decent job
I have mine in black , it can be sprayed on or you can apply by brush directly from tin
Hope this helps

Regards

Hi ronjeramy / Fastermike / Mike

The Honda I had in mind was a 4X4 CRV

Long story but the girls in the family have bought a horse and by god they cost a fortune to run........ so something has to go.

With a family of 5, single (huge) salary and a projected 10 year freeze on pay I looked at a cheap and cheerful Clio / Corsa in place of the Impreza.

They now want a bigger 4 wheel drive to get to the horse if the weather turns a bit cold and snowey and there was a Honda CRV in the News and star for under 2 grand.

So just wondered what Honda's were like ?

Pre 2007 CRV's are not great for towing as far as 4x4 go, the MTPLM is 1500kg off the top of my head, though that might be ok for a horse box and horse. I've no idea what they weigh, I'm basing it on a caravan if that makes sense

Hi Mike

It isn't for towing just to get people / hay / crap from High Hesket to Ivegill and back again in the winter if there is snow and ice about...

The road from High Hesket to Ivegill has a couple of hills LOL

i'm not up on prices Shaun (i just service/repair and supply parts for them LOL)

4wd on the Subaru's is second to none IMO, with the right tyres i have passed plenty of "proper" 4wd's in horrendous conditions
