Apexi air filter
On buying some parts for my 99uk classic, i got this apexi air filter with maf.
I was going to sell it on and just get a panel filter, but i think i will fit it has i would like to fit fmic in the future. Being a dry type filter thought it might not be so bad for the maf, but can you clean them . I was thinking of using k+n synthetic cleaner, anybody using the apexi, how do you rate them , do you clean them. Thanks

A lot of subarus i see have a induction filter fitted , but i get the views on the forum is to keep a panel filter if you can. I no you have to fit one if you go for a front mount intercooler , but a lot of cars with tmic have them fitted.
I have just read the haynes modifying manual for the impreza turbo , and they rate the induction type over the panel filter.
I have the above filter all ready to fit , but not sure if i should rip my standard air box out and fit it. The car runs a full decat system, 255 pump, and the ecu fitted was mapped for these mods plus the filter and a vf 28 turbo.
I no i should get it remapped for my car , but it runs nice since i have swopped the ecu, and i intend to fit the harvey ported headers and up-pipe after xmas. So was going to remap it then, has its £350 each time.
What are your views , there must be loads of you which have ripped the standard air box out of the classic.

I fitted them with the standard ecu and ran it first, seemed like it was holding back low down. When i swopped to the mapped ecu its was so much better low down and all over, and it ran lovely.
I no its best to get it remapped and if it ran bad i would of , but it seems to run nice so i will pay the £350 remap once the harvey pipes are fitted. I am just thinking should i fit this air filter too , has the ecu was mapped for it.
If they are so bad, why so many subarus have them.

The thing is that by using an air filter like that won't gain you anything more than a good panel filter would. But most importantly, cars still using a MAF seem to suffer more, the later classics have problematic MAF's anyway so your just staking the fire by fitting one.
Many Imprezas you see do have them, but mainly because people think they 'look' good or because they have gone front mount. People in the know and still using a TMIC will always keep the original air box.

Thats what i was thinking
matty, only paid £10 for it, and it came with the maf.Perhaps better selling filter and keeping spare maf and getting a k+n or green panel filter.
