Default your views on a car im going to see..

Hello everyone.

I'm new to the Subaru world but can't wait to purchase my first one

After selling my focus St for a diesel and my 1971 mini off the road for restoration I need something to put a smile on my face over the weekends

I have 4k and wanted a blob eye wrx

After a good look round I found this sti

http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-m...-sti/112532038

I have talked to the seller and he is willing to sell withing my price range

What do you guys think?

Cheers
Sam

£4300 is very very cheap for a blob sti, it may be genuine but id get it properly checked over as at this price id be worried the owner is trying to shift it due to expensive problems.

it seems cheap for an sti, but that could be the millage, what you need to check on a car with that milage is service history make sure its been kept up as to subaru scheduled, also the timing best which is 5 year or 60k miles

As mentioned above, more information needed on the history. The price seems a bit cheap but the milage would put alot of people of unless its got a lot of good history with it.

The car has full service history belts done at 80k miles

Says its in really good nick as well

Also done a full hpi check which has showed up nothing except a private plate change in 2005

What would be the main things to look out for?

Cheers

i would say you need to listen to engine for any knocking or noises, the gearbox for whining and panels for any unrecorded accident damage

Definitely would go into this one with eyes wide open as it is not much money for what you are looking to purchase, if it's too good to be true then it's too good to be true!

Always go into these things wanted as much info as possible & check it out carefully as the wrong one can literally cost you thousands in repairs.

Well worth getting someone who knows their way around a car as a second opinion & don't get emotionally attached to any car.

Its always a nightmare buying these cars, we checked mine over and the double checked it, All was great until 7 weeks later it spun a bearing and needed a rebuild.

just get it checked by someone experienced.

buying any used car is a risk! but when you think its a perfomance car that has done 90k miles with different owners all driving differently, some could have ragged the t*ts of it some could have respected them,

id be extremely weary of such a vague advert like that.
These are specialist cars so you expect the owners to generally be enthusiasts, therefore be enthusiastic about selling them with a decent write up at least saying more info that that. But that said, could be a diamond (although the cheaper they get the more chavvy people get hold of them and start to not look after them)

You could ask on one of the scottish subaru sites as somebody may know the car.

Scottishscoobies.net or the scottish section on sidc.

Have a hard look underneath for rust, especially in the front and rear subframes. Beware the plastic undertrays hiding it if they're still in place too.
