Has anyone had a dealings with them?? I phoned them today and the quote for F/Comp was very good. £250.00 cheaper than present insurers. They said Security was not aked for!!!!!!. Also when I gave them the reg. he told me straight away the make and model..
How the hell do they have this info?????

Cheers

I just got an online quote from elephant.co.uk
£1100 more than CIS quoted , but as soon as i entered the reg it came up with all the car details, even the correct color. they must have a link to some sort of DVLA Database

Hi Luke,

Tesco appear to be giving very good quotes for Scoobies. When I got a quote from them back in Feb they insisted that Tracker was fitted to my car. A few others on the BBS have had a similar response. Is yours a Turbo?

I'm not sure what database they use, but a lot of insurance companies can tell your cars make/model from the reg number. I'd guess it must come from the DVLA as they would hold the info when the car was first registered. Must be similar to the HPI checks which can tell how many owners have had the car (V5 documentation).

Luke,
I got a very good quote from Tescos, but the car had to be fitted with a tracker.
In the end I went with Direct Line, which was the next cheapest, but did not require a tracker. This worked out cheaper than getting a tracker.
I spoke to a very nice girl at swinton who laughed down the phone and then apologized before quoting mo over £5000 !!!

Craig.

Yes it is a turbo but a legacy(Dont need the Hassle of a Imprezza!!!)£635.00 f/c , £200 excess.No tracker required.
Think i will take it as "Bell" want £850.00 to renew my insurance.

Rumour has it if you live in the Cotswold's they deliver your documents in a dark green Range Rover with a discreet tesco's sign on the side !!! All others first class post!!!!

Hi,

I have used Tesco's insurance for two years now with varies different cars and have never had any problems. I am actually a manager for Tesco's and hell of a lot of the staff also use them and again I have never heard of them having any issues. Fortunately Tesco's staff get an additional 10% discount so the quotes are even better again. Just make sure you check the details on the certificate as they managed to get mine wrong twice, however this was easily sorted.

Cheers.

Might be just circumstance, but after reading this today I gave them a call. For a stock 2001 WRX for me & the wife ( I'm 29 ) they wanted £1038. I'll stick with Admiral at £751 thanks. It's due for renewal in May, so I'm looking around, but can't seem to match the renewal quote (which is unusual).

I just changed to Tescos last weekend after they were £400 less than my next best qoute, and under a third of Admirals. Required a tracker, etc, but as I had these fitted already was not a problem for me

Give Greenlight a ring with your details.

It costs me about 650 with the same car, age and wife on ( wife went on for free ).

With mods as they dont mind them!

I'm with tescos too for a wrx my01. they didn't insist on tracker, but I have it anyway.

quote was 1358 for top crime area in central london (which is actually quite a good rate) with full noclaims, 27, no convictions (yet).

Due to be getting an Impreza in 3-4 months time. TESCO have been by far the cheapest so far.

Up to a month ago, you could get the price on-line from TESCO for the Impreza, but now it says phone them as they've got to check some details. (alarm probably)

This is the quote I got in Feb . . . . .

Any Impreza Turbo 1994 on (not 22B, RB5, STi etc) up to a value of 16K
Fully Comp cover
No protected NCB
No legal cover
1st driver 30 years old (more than 5 years NCB)
2nd driver 34 years old female (the fiance, more than 5 years NCB)
Kept on a driveway over night

£524 . . . . . . not bad I thought

A quick warning to anyone who is thinking of getting an import with them.
A friend with an sti who didnt tell them it was (they didnt ask me, so i didnt tell them was his attitude) has just had his cancelled after they checked the car.

Tesco's didnt want to know about my sti5 last year either.

Barclays on the other hand are also very cheap and are import friendly too

They were OK with my brake upgrade - no charge for that

Their insurance also covers track days

Mine is an import Legacy B4 - they had no problem with that.
