Not that I was doubting your insurance policy on the P1 RUM , but all this talk of tesco insurance prompted me to run my details on elephant.co.uk...........
It came back at £722 for a year !!! BUT - it was a *guidance price*.....are they just underestimating - so people will phone them or has car insurance come down all of a sudden.........???
Reassure me RUM.........please !

I'm currently insured with Elephant. If you click on "full quote" then you get a guaranteed price; after all, they still need details about claims, convictions, other drivers, etc...

I had a "guidance quote" of £710, which climed to £907 when I declared details like mods and my SP30, and added my other half to the policy.

You can complete a full quote in minutes, and then actually buy online, so it's the real price.

Cheers

Elephants guidance price for my Beemer was 729. The actual was 1345. Bit of a difference methinks. I'm still with Priviledge after renewal, as they were just over 700.

Cool

Matt,

Don't you need special insurance for a Taxi though?

Chris.

Wink

Do I win the prize then for the biggest difference between guidance and actual quote?

Guidance for my P1 from Elephant was around the £900 mark.

Actual quote : £4025.

I think I'll stick with Privilege.

I've yet to see a 'guidance price' be anything like the real deal. My £1400 magically turned in to £3000 despite only adding one SP30. I dare say mods would have pushed it up by another comparable percentage.

Similar stories for both my brother and a friend.

I've yet to try Privilege though - does anyone have their number to hand?

Use Barclays - they are underwritten by Privilege, but have standard 100 quid excess, free trackday cover and unlimited hifi cover. And they're around 10% cheaper to boot!

Call them on 0870 600 1414. I luv 'em (and am not affiliated at all with them, etc etc)

Talking

Gents
I just went online for a quote on my present car with hefalump and was quoted £450 ish in the first instance then £550 ish with all relevant details which compares really well with what I'm presently paying £650(non scoob).

The best bit was when I phoned for a quote on my prospective motor namely a 200sx, after giving all my details they came back with a quote for £877!!!

This is miles under all the other quotes I've had which have ranged from £1200 to £4000.

But as above, what kind of service do the company give, it sounds too good to be true and anyone's experiences with this company would be really helpful.

Cheers

I tried Elephant for my Sport and it came out at £498 fully comp with the spouse on. I phoned Abbey National and got it for £350 not a lot of difference. All other quotes came in at around £400 so the abbey did good I reckon

I didn't know Barclay's had free track-day cover and I'm insured with them too.I really ,really hope you're right but how do you know this and where does it say this in the policy?

Regards,
John

My Privilege policy covers me for Trackday too - and I didn't have to pay a penny extra for it...

DJFish,

Elephant is just Admiral's internet only arm (a mate works for them) so they should be fine. I'm insured with them for £1050 on a MY98 - 27, 2yrs NCB.

As to experiences with them, another friend of mine was wiped out at a crossroads (Large off roader vs small MX5 = not pretty) and Elephant were happy to let him use a Mazda garage for the repairs. They also sorted out the other party who were trying to claim it wasn't their fault (it was, the damage proved it beyond doubt). Result being he has his car back as good as new and still full NCB.

Hope this helps.

John
