ist rally car- stuck Between Scooby and an Evo.
HI Everyone,
I'm a bit of a newbie and thought I would introduce myself.
Thinking of getting either a scooby or an evo. Kind of not sure which way to go. I have seen an impreza wrx 2002 blobeye? (i think) for about £4K and a Evo 5 for about the same as well and am stuck between them.
any suggestions.
Jay

Your on a Subaru owners club web site asking If we think you should buy an Impreza or an Evo....
Really ?????
Get yourself an Evo buddy....lol....
In all seriousness, if I had the choice between a bug/blob WRX or an Evo 5 then I'd take the Evo everytime.

When you say "rally car" I take it that's just the kind of road car you are meaning and this is not going to be an actual competition car?
2002 Would likely be a bug eye.
My suggestion is to go and test drive them and buy which ever you prefer nobody elses opinion will decide which one is the more fun in your eyes.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the swift response. The car will be used for road use only and perhaps an occasional track day. Looking to upgrade form my Pug 106 Rallye.
Running Costs shouldn't be to much of an issue as long as they arent astronomical. how much does everyone usually spend on keeping a scooby?

Nothing is cheap really. Depends on your mileage - Servicing every 10k and expect 18-24mpg. Insurance could be the biggest kick in the nuts depending on your age.
Have a look on the websites of the various specialist for an idea of part prices and servicing.
Scoobyclinic, Enginetuner, APi, and Roger Clark to name a few.

Let me guess... R reg Evo? 02 plate Subaru?... same price.
That explains how much car you get for your money.
More comfort and user friendly, Scoob. More hardcore and faster, Evo.
BUT, you will never get a barble out of an Evo. 4K will get you alot of R reg STI.

Evo 5 if you want a fast car that handles well(280bhp to the WRX's 215bhp), and you dont have to throw money at it to make it much better, But would annoy you if you used it everyday as its more of a car to use at the weekend, and will cost you a lot more to run/maintain!!!!
Pick the bugeye WRX if you want a nice usable car thats cheaper to run, insure etc, But you will spend a lot more modifying it to be as good as a standard Evo 5!!!!

No expert but stronger engine, different gearing, think they have a lsd front diff, electric mirrors, rear wiper, factory rear tints, wider tyres, 8000rpm red line, auto intercooler spray and a emergency flare lol. will wait for the experts to tell you the rest.
