Default Boot Leak

It's been p!ssing down all day and I've found a tiny puddle in the middle if the boot well and by where the well meets the back panel on the right. Am I right in thinking it could be my rear light seal?

Assuming you have done a search, yes.

But could also be spoiler seal.
What model year car? Classics are b*ggers for the rear light seals going.

Remove, scrape off as much old sealant as possible from light and car, replace with a 10mm bead of this:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carafax-ID...item416a9e6e06 in place of the old sealant.

DO NOT use silicone, or Tiger Seal/SikaFlex etc.

It's a 2004 wrx sti. The boot carpets are dry but theres a small amount of water in the well. That's making me think it the rear light, and running down the back panel into the well.

Could be, but on mine, when it did that, it soaked part of the boot mat too.

Anyway, once you get the offending light out, it's usually easy to see that the old sealant is dried up and full of muck.

M444GY, how have you re-sealed yours? What did you use? And did you remove as much of the old sealant as possible?

If you've done it properly, I'd start to suspect other things.

It could also be:
Actual boot seal, (I had to remove mine and put Carafax under parts of it, then reseat it.)

Spoiler seal, (Remove and re-seat on Carafax, paying attention to bolt, and wiring holes).

Rear screen seal: mine went, it has to be removed and replaced

The little vents at the base of each side lower arch. (Meant to let air OUT, but stick open and water comes in).

Please remember the spoiler is not meant to fully seal out water. You have seals around each of the fixings and the rear light loom but there is a slot in the front and at the rear to allow water to drain from the boot top to the rear.

Defo sounds like the rear light seal unless you can climb in through the opening between the seat seats and feel along the end of the spoiler bolts for wetness.

Both my New Age cars have occasionally showed dark patches on the carpets and a bit of water but I can never find the leak. The answer is not to open the boot when it rains! It might even be condensation as there is bugger all sound/noise insulation in the shell so temperature variations at night might cause that?

Remove both side parts where the jack is and opposite side, There are 2 black filter/breather boxes the rain can get in as they are under the bumper and spray goes all over them, check for puddles below where the jack goes too

Cheers guys, like I say it's a minor leak so I'll check all of the above on a dry day when I wash it.

What's the process for sealing the rear spoiler?

Loosen bolts, lift spoiler and seal around the bolt threads ? From the outside or inside?

I would recommend removing the spoiler and checking the seals.

There are holes where bolts/screws pass through and also one for the brake light wiring.

Clean off any dirty, or cracked sealant, place a decent ring of sealant round each hole and back on.

funny that our car's just had a big patch in mid-right hand side of the boot appear today. I hardly ever use the boot and for this week my husband has been using it everyday. Looks like I will have to re seal everything, but I never had issues when washing it???
