Default WRX STI V ltd RA advice please

Hi

First post, nice forum

Due to a midlife crisis and a couple of track days last year Ive decided that a 300bhp+ car is getting near the top of my bucket list. So with a limited buget of around 2k everything points to a STI
I'm on Impreza overlaod after scanning ebay and auto trader.

I'm watching a 1996 STI V ltd but the seller states its light weight but its not RA Another issue is this car has had another engine fitted, how do can I tell a STI engine from a WRX? Does a V ltd have ally boot and bonnet? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3209780771...84.m1423.l2649

Ive found a couple of "classic" RA's on ebay buy theyre at the top end of my buget but will pay a bit more for a sorted tidy car. How do I identify a genuine RA?

At the other end of the spectrum Ive seen a very straight looking 2001 standard"bug eye"? WRX PPP.
Whats the bhp of a PPP?

So many questions

Bug PPP took it from 215PS to about 240PS , the early daughterboard PPP didn't perform as well as the later reflashed DENSO ECU

Have you read Mr Long's book on the Impreza?

The inlet manifold colour, from the version 3 onwards all STI's had red inlet manifolds

The Classic Impreza line up is a bit of a nightmare at times, someone counted the number of impreza editions and it went into 3 figures. When Subaru won something they had a special edition (V Ltd where V=Victory), often they had a limited edition for the hell of it called, well a Ltd.

The RA (Race Altered) was a bit of a poverty spec as it was partly meant for converting to rally cars but various limited editions added extras LOL Came in WRX and STi flavours

The Type R (R=Retna = 3 door) also came in WRX and STi flavour but no RA variant.

The only commonly available alloy panels were the bonnet..

Confused? it's easy to get sidetracked... Just wait until you try and work out which cars had a roof vent (virtualy all RA's had them so it's a god pointer, as is lack of rear wiper, side skirts etc)

Mr Long wrote a book on the impreza which lists the main editions but not everyday reading.

Best to post a link to cars you fancy on here for advice

Shaun

Thanks for the replies... The ebay link in my first post is looking attractive.
I figure if I'm gonna get burned on my first Subaru I might as well be a cheap one. I quite handy with the spanners so a tatty one isnt a problem.

Heres a few ive got my eye on. All opinions & advice much appreciated.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2809631458...84.m1423.l2649 No MOT I wonder why? Bit too far from me really (I'm in Essex)
