Default Private Plates

Maybe a silly question... but.

Of all the reg plate sellers on line, what is the best way and cheapest way to buy a private plate.

Any advice appreciated.

I bought sk11 ppy

Someone had it off dvla to sell on. First dealer i spoke to gave me a price only for it to jump up by £500 when he clicked i really wanted it, said seller had put price up.

Spoke to second dealer who could get me it also for original price, told him what had happened after i paid dopsit and it was secured, he named the other dealer without me saying anything, just a greedy dealer. I wont names names here, but lots of plates are sold by dealers, they just act as middle men.

Skip.

I bought direct from DVLA, far cheaper and easier than buying from the many dealers.

You may find that the likes of 'regtransfers' will advertise plates that are still owned by the DVLA. You pay them say £600 for it and they then buy it from DVLA for £250.

Also, if you can't find a plate you really want its worth ringing DVLA as if it's not in circulation they can bring the plate to auction. My pal did this (he wanted ROC43T) and they put it in a local auction for him. He ended up buying it for £400.

I got mine direct from the DVLA too, don't really understand why anyone would go elsewhere considering they initially own them all don't they?
