Silver cars
Have had a couple of silver cars in my time, but never really been that impressed with the finish when clean.
To explain if you have a black car and a detailer does his magic on it it looks stunning with a deep shine, but I am yet to see a silver car have that wow factor.
The converse of course is that a black car looks dirty very quickly whereas silver tends not to.
I am only asking as am about to change my car and have the option of a silver or black one. The silver one is a straight honest car and if it was black I would buy it today.... but will it always look lacklustre against the darker coloured variants?
Discuss
P.S. it's not a Scoob... it's a Merc. Suppose this should go in NSR or Other Marques... feel free to move it mods

I agree black looks better when clean, but when i had a black car i used to get angry washing it and waxing due to swirls, on my crystal grey sti you dont notice them as much. I agree silver always looks clean but never a wow look at the shine.

For me the biggest problem with a silver car is people don't see you coming, especially in winter, i lost count of the amount of times people have pulled out on me when i have been in a silver car.
Scenario, coming down a bit of a hill in winter in the morning, sky is grey with a bit of sunshine and people just don't see you, took me a while to figure out until i did it to someone else and nearly crashed, after that i started looking out for them and its amazing how well they blend into the sky under certain conditions, i took to keeping my lights on all the time as a precaution.
I like the colour, but won't buy a silver car now no matter how nice it is.

I had the same choice as you I looked at the black car 1st and If you look carefully you can see the swirl marks where as silver hides a lot of blemishes quite well.
Black is nice dont get me wrong but its sooooooo hard to keep clean

Particularly when layered, Acrylic gives a great finish on silver with plenty of "flake pop". Easy to use and has good durability too.

I think I am kidding myself though, I think I want to like the silver car, but really I should get the black one .... always loved black cars and I will always be looking at it wishing it was black.
Had a black Integara Type R and was always washing the bloody thing, but there's worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The 792 on Impreza's is far better than the 406 having owed both. My Wagon looks really nice after a wash and wax with the metallic flake in the paint. Especially un-colour coded as the trim bits and tyre walls dressed give a fantastic contrast to it and set it off.
I gave the Subaru a good scrub the other day and wish I'd taken pictures now to show what I mean. Never gonna be like a red/blue/black car but still good with the right products

silver is called the lazy man colour for good reason. It stll looks ok even when dirty. Nothing looks better than black when its in a detailed state. Trouble is it's a full time job keeping it looking good.

Mine is Premium Silver O1G and I'm happy with it. Not so happy with the bonnet repaint that's come out a different shade despite being a good looking match when on the test piece.
Posting in technical to see if anyone else has come across this problem.

Silver cars are everywhere and it's such a boring colour, imo. Black on the other hand looks fantastic when it's been cared for but **** me it takes some looking after! Another thing with silver, it's easy to tell when a panel has been resprayed/sprayed with a crap colour match. I haven't come across a single silver car where all the panels match perfectly. To sum up, go silver if you want to keep a low profile and not be noticed and if you're a lazy ****** who can't be bothered to clean your car very often if at all Or go black if you want a car that looks good/shines like crazy, which you'll be washing all the time to maintain the finish.
