Dont need to do anything about the mot if it is declared sorned, just renew the sorn every year when the reminder comes in.

I have declared 2 cars off the road and each time I just wrote a letter saying it has been scrapped to the best of my knowledge, I received a letter back about 2 weeks later thanking me for informing them and they have updated their records. Hope this helps.

you still need the car insured as well even on SORN, that's now law.

No, it's not. You need insurance if it's taxed (that's now law) but not if it's SORN. Of course, if it's SORN it needs to be off the public road, if it's on the road it needs both tax and insurance (and a valid MOT).

If you're breaking it, write to them and inform them that it's been scraped, otherwise just renew the SORN every year - it's easy enough to do online in a couple of minutes. The MOT you can just allow to lapse.

Sam's car is going to be track only, unless he's changed his mind.

Think that's why he wants to know regarding MOT's.

In that case, it's legal to drive directly to and from a pre-booked MOT without tax or declared SORN (will need valid insurance for that though). If you're doing this, it's worth making sure the garage you're taking it to have your number plate noted should you get pulled over the police will be able to check with the garage easily.
If you intend on taking it for it's MOT on a trailer then insurance isn't required.

If you intend to drive it to/from the track then you'll need tax, MOT and insurance.

Declared mine sorn twice now and wouldn't declare it scrapped just in case you want it mot'ing !
As my track car is now complete il be putting it in for an mot very soon then taxing it and insuring it through REIS Motorsport insurance so I can drive it to and from local tracks but will trailer it to tracks further afield .

It's a track car only now, going to get it race ready with around 270bhp and take it on track as much as i can afford and then once i have some more driving skills maybe enter the Nippon Challenge if i can afford it.

Thanks
