Default dissapointing rolling road result

Had my classic mapped by Si from JGM today, and he is a top bloke, just think I gave him a shyt car

I have a Roger Clark 450 turbo, 900 Lateral injectors, simtek now mapped, full decat exhaust, unequal headers(heat wrapped), HKS cone filter, Samco inlet hose, walbro fuel pump, oil catch tank, front mount and only made 336.4bhp.

Gutted really as made 323bhp on standard ecu with standard turbo and injectors...............

Si rekons my turbo is knackered as it was displaying all the signs. not boosting until 5k and smoking on boost.................

I need to find out please if someone knows if I can get my vf23 rebuilt, or if there is a reasonably priced upgrade, or if I should get the Roger Clarke rebuilt?????

Any help much apprecaited guys

Wow, thats under powered figures for a 450bhp turbo. What engine do you have? It does say this on their website:

The RCM450 is the ideal turbocharger for those looking for a bhp figure in the mid to high 400 range. Although can be used on a 2.0L due to its larger size it is probably best suited to Imprezas running uprated 2.35 or 2.5L engines to aid spool when running this turbo.

That's really disappointing figures for those mods and you must be gutted I was looking for a Roger Clark 450 for my car before I got an MD321 and on a 2 litre it should produce good power as it says above.

I guess the turbo was 2nd hand and unknown condition?

Yes, its a 2.0litre lump.
The turbo was second hand but from a guy I know, not quite a friend, but a friend of a friend.
Did get this turbo, 900cc injectors and a simtek for £700.

Im going to have the turbo looked over by turbo dynamics i think, see what the score is. Think if its given the all clear Ill sell it on and get something a little smaller

Tbho the RCM 450 is well known to be laggy on a 2 litre although the figure it produced is obviously well low!

Those injectors seem a bit big for your spec.

Turbo Technics, Brackmills.Northampton would do a service exchange on your VF23 if thats what you want. I expect you would be looking at about £600 but that could be wide of the mark and best to speak to them. It would be as good as new.
Tel: 01604 705050 or enquiries@turbotechnics.com

Injectors are difficult to get for reasonable money at the moment and he reflowed ones work really well at low dutys anyway so no issue once setup.

My RCM 400 made 407 on VPower on a 2L & is not laggy. Running Meth now so should be close to mid 400s.
That RCM 450 must knackered.

I don't think it is worthwhile putting a lot of money into a VF23. A good secondhand one is around £200 or slightly more.
If you send your turbo to someone reliable and honest they should be able to tell you what is wrong with it and provide an estimate for repair. This should not cost a lot but would obviously have to cover delivery too and from and a little bit of time to cover the inspection. You can then accept or reject their cost estimate.
If Simon says the turbo is goosed there is every chance it is goosed. Not having seen the car I would also be looking for air leaks and I would be interested to know what headers and uppipe are on the car because these have a far greater effect on performance than many people realise.

i took my car to Harvey once i had a poor rolling road result, Darren looked the car over it was found to have a big air leak at the recirc gasket.
He even took the turbo off and checked it free of charge, top guy
It was more like 30hp lost though than the 100+ your talking about. Either way have it checked out by someone you trust

Well currently on a low mileage v4 sti engine. I have however got a complete v3sti engine in the garage that I want to build up to a 2.1 I think

Not that worried about big power, just want a reliable 350-360bhp.

Do the odd track day, and occasional Santa pod day so wont really be abused

Agree mate I was just trying to make the point that it’s a very good turbo and its worth getting it check out rather than giving up on it.

If you only want 350-360 then why are you going with such a big turbo, it really doesn't make sense.....
