Well there will be mixed opinions on this one, But what I would say if its been maintained, regular service cambelt etc I don't see a problem, But a Subaru with a 100k could do with a rebuild, If you was thinking of a power build soon etc But do your homework and don't rush in to it mate, as something should pop up

104k is not a lot of miles for a 9 year old car, and there is no reason it won't go on for another 100k if it's looked after, it's better than one that has spent most of it's life in a garage or doing lots of short trips/odd weekend blast to the local pub.

These cars are getting old now particularly the classics, and as such you need to factor in wear and tear, especially on a car that was designed to run 300bhp that is now running close to 400bhp and 15yrs old.

Whatever you buy you need to make sure you have some spare cash for the unexpected, especially if it's your only car, as even good ones are expensive to run.

Happy hunting.

It's just a limited edition edition uk, made 444 in the best colour grey with blue alcantara interior mine has 18 " rota gra's, sti suspension, front mounted cooler mapped at 310 bhp loads of history with the car just had cam belt and tensioners etc etc. I haven't decided on defiantly selling however if you are genuinely interested I would want less than £5000 for it as that is money for type r or sti 8's even saw a hawk eye for £5800 last week.

You'll not need a classic STi running 330 to keep up with your heavier Bug Wrx. 330 in the classic will feel quick, especialy with the right gearbox. I'd go for either a classic STi or UK car with forged engine, stronger box etc. My humble UK wagon is running a "mere" 284 ponies and 317 torques (to quote Jeremy Clarkson), but scares standardish Bugeye STi's due to the weight.

It's only 310 due to bad fuel causing det on the day of mapping, top figure was 342 but for safety until remap 310 was the safest map for fuelling, it doesn't sound much but the car is light and is faster than most 350+ new ages oh it has launch control and anti lag.

To be fair you will do well to find a big power classic for 5k even in the current climate.

I'd have to agree with you Jay,especially a properly setup one which could handle the power ie brakes/suspension

IMO people put to much emphasis on how much lighter a classic is over say a Newage STI forgetting how much money it takes to just to get the classic to even stock Newage STI level in terms or parts.

5k may well get you a forged classic but to exploit the forged engine you're looking at another couple of grand or so on top of the purchase price for a box.

Power to weight ratio counts for a lot but hey, DG doesnt do to bad in Time Attack in his lardy Newage...

You can easily find a Rover 800 Vitesse FastBack Turbo easily less than £1000 and these can be easily modified to about 250hp like mine will be when i fix the head gasket. Rovers are a lot more refined and better to drive and you will get the chicks all over you
