Default melted piston???

hi fellas stripped my bottom end down ready to rebuild as sounded like it was knocking quite badly only to find that the crank and bearings are fine but piston #2 has melted slightly down one side and all the rings were broken anyone any ideas as to what could of caused this as dont want to rebuild it only for it to happen again. having to use another bottom end casing from another knocking bottom end i had lying about now as it has f@cked the piston chamber

Depends on your spec: what bhp, what injectors, what induction kit, what exhaust, what turbo, who mapped it and when?

Sounds like detonation has lead to piston overheating and melting. Can be caused by many things but usually mapping is to blame.

I think 2 is rear drivers side, isn't that the one that always go, some say running lean becau@e its last injectors to be fed, some say the extra heat from the turbo causes it.
