Default Dog behaviourists - flat 4 aversion...

Here's my new pup

Lovely eh?

Here's the problem - every time a flat 4 is within her space she gets upset, very messilly upset. If she's in a car powered by one, the effect is extreme.

Here's the story:

Collected her 3 days ago. Collection meant a 60 miler in the 330bhp de-cat... first 100 yds bladder release, next stomach, and finally... and alot of it.

I've taken her out 3 times in a different car (focus), and she was OK. Took her out today in the Scooby - sick again. Then, whilst sitting outside the pub doing a bit a socialisation, a very loud Scooby pulled on. Pup imediately started trembling...

So, short of equal length headers what should I do

keep at it. maybe have her quite far away from a scooby so she can only just hear the noise and gradually bring her closer while keeping her attention on her toys / treats.

Lucy is sick in a car within 10mins and is like it until the journey is over. We take her out for 9 minutes and slowly over time go to 11, 12 etc.

She will get better, just reward her and NEVER tell her off... Very cute by the way.

What a lovely dog. I adore Border Collies. Many years ago I had 'Sonny' my best friend (and most intelligent!) for 14 years.
It must be the frequency that's frightening her? Sounds like a good excuse to fit equal length headers! Or you could give her to me?

positive reinforcement mate

find out what your dogs "thing" is, mine is a ball, toy, food.... u find out.

have your car a fair way away, get someone to start it, at the same time introduce the "thing", repitition is the key with dogs, never aa quick fix im afraid.
eventually your pup will accosiate the scooby with "nice things"...
i would have a recording of ur car and play it very quietly every now and then while introducing positive things....

although she is a bit young to learn this, start now and stick with it mate and you will get there.

another way is to introduce another dog let them become friends, then start the car in the distance (to start with), if the other dog is fine with the noise the pup will be calmed by its state.. . dogs are a pack animal, they act acording to how their pack is / are..

she is totally gorgeous though mate, you will be so glad you stuck in there,

Picked our new kitten up in the Scooby with the exhaust fully open. OOPS she did not like it, the next time I started it the wife said she freaked a bit. But now she just looks through the window not caring. I agree with the other posts use treats or toys to make it a good thing. We have a King Charles Cavalier, that we got from a rescue place in south wales. We live near Lincoln so he got used to the Scooby very quickly.

There is a collie that gets walked on my estate that gets upset when I drive past in the scooby. The owner said its only subarus or buses that bother it. It doesn't vomit or anything, but it sometimes freezes and stares or jumps about when it hears either scooby with a ninja exhaust or prodrive back box

I knew a collie years ago that would literally want to dive in front of any car with a louder then normal exhaust.. It would do its angry teeth face and go for it. Luckily the owner never took it off the lead.

One of my dogs used to puke in the car from the moment i took him home, took about a year to get over it fully, main thing was not to feed before going anywhere, and as above start with small trips/ gradual introduction, she will get over it in time, quite common apparently.

Nice looking puppy.

The breed of dog will play a large part in this as generally collies are very highly strung.

Our first took several years to stop chucking up in the back of the car except on all but the shortest of journeys. Not a Scoob either, just a Volvo.

Our last dog though knew the rumble and it signified either me or a mate she went scatty about had arrived. My old dear said if she heard a Scoob coming down the road she'd run to the front door in anticipation
