Default Is this for real!!

As the title, came back yesterday in my scoob so was excited as only owned it 2 days, Driving down the duel carriageway with a BMW up my back end at 80 mph decided when we come off the roundabout I will stick my right foot down and lose him, well not only he did he put his foot down he flew past me I am thinking m5 well to my disappointment and not sure how I am going to cope with this it was a DIESEL surely this can't be right, how can my car get thrashed by this dirty engine, pretty sure it was a 525d but it defiantly had a D at the end so not 100% sure what engine.
Now going out to see how quick my diesel van really is lol

does sound dissapointing bud but diesel bmw,s are pretty torquey in the midrange. the 525d se has about 218 bhp but obviously heavier power to weight etc. plus your new to scoobs so maybe needing to adjust your driving style and get used to nailing it on boost, failing that the quest for more power has kicked in real early for you lol. remap, bigger turbo etc beckons.....

And what are you doing posting at this time, you should be in church with the rest of us confessing your sins, in particular the one about you letting an oil burning rep mobile make you eat dust.

10 hail mary's should placate the scoobnet holyer than tho crowd, and a couple of how's your farthers with the Mrs should sooth your ego.

And as above, sounds like you need more power.

Lool, had a white one.... But my recent silver is as fast ... Haha. On a serious note, you need to be skilled these days to lose those tourqy diesels in a bog standart wrx. Reality check as someone mentioned. Its not a 4.5 sec car you have there. So i gues its time for some investment.

I think even at 4.5 secs 0-60 the power that dirty diesel had Would of still caught me, it's one of those you had to be there moments to see how quick that BMW was to believe it, well the the reality check has kicked in.
I think it was how quick the acceleration of the BMW was at 70 mph+ which shocked me more.

Oh well back to the drawing board lol

I followed an older 530d in my jdm bug wrx off a roundabout some years ago , onto a duel carriageway, two lanes I accelerated in 2nd gear with the intention of flowing past him......

Oh no I ended up having to nail it through second and third and only just scraped past it.

I sold it and bought a Classic STI... Then had a similar encounter with a 335d

Well I've just spent the last hour looking up the 535d only to find some of these have been remapped to a mammoth 330 bhp and Over 700NM of torque which these are crazy figures for a diesel, phew I don't feel so much like a lemon now but still can't understand how a diesel produce these types of figures it's wrong and ridiculous.

A 5 series is as heavy as the moon regardless of torque, you simply need more power!

(Sorry couldn't resist)

The 535d is a seriously quick car as standard and explosive when mapped. You will need circa 400 each of power and torque to stand a chance in a newage. Classics being lighter will need a bit less and should fare better in the acceleration stakes but will struggle at the top end. The reason the BMs are so quick is the use of variable vane geometry on the turbos (no lag), running very high boost levels and high fuel pressure.

i am guessin its same lump as my mates 335d with are twin turbo and after a map the torque figures are rediculas! and they are very quick, so spend some money time for bigger bhp then somethin quick will do it then you need more bhp its never ending lol. theres always gonna be a quicker car lol..

It's terms of real world driving a standard or mapped 535d BMW will rape a near standard or lightly modded impreza, the near instant throttle response of those's BM's is sick and they pull hard!!
AND tbho the BMW diesel engine is one of the nicest sounding of the fuel of satan cars around

The quintessential diesel 'clatter' is a symptom of design. Due to the high in cylinder temps on diesels (remember a diesel is detting all the time), the pistons are not only incredibly strong but a loose fit when cold. This allows for expansion as the cylinders warm up and the pistons expand. Once warm the engine is much quieter. With modern technological advancements the diesel engine is much quieter and offers better performance/economy than the petrol equivalent.

Agree they are quick but not 'that' quick chaps.
My pal recently had a new 335D Msport, was mapped at benston motors and we had it on ZENs rollers. It made 310bhp and IIRC something like 500ftlb.
Now don't get me wrong it was quick but not a patch on my classic which at that time was circa 380/360.
Even the 3 series cars are a bloody heavy beast at almost 1800KG. Not sure about the 5 series but surely they are getting towards 2 tons.

I'm afraid you need to remember that a standard newage WRX is not a quick car by today's standards, far from it infact.

Nope , it wouldn't .. My previous sti v3 was 320ish with same tourque and the remaped 335d couldn't pass me on B roads. It would , only if there were longer straights. Tourque figures and twin turbos doesn't mean everything. They only rev till 5K? Their heavy as f***. In a real world the perfomance would be simillar, but it's difficult to compare on a normal roads, as we all grown up aren't we???

Agree mate, like what I said before it was one them had to be their moments where I looked like a fiesta 950cc finesse trying to outrun a cosworth, like I say I was only trying my car out and it's still really quick for me and I am very pleased with it I can still out pace the GTI's and that, well I hope I can

You should taken one for the marque and slammed into the side of him! Now we have to live with the shame of a Impreza getting slammed by a dirty derv.....
