Photocopying and faxing a V5 document to employer
Maybe i am being over cautious here but my employer wants me to fax a copy of my v5 document as i have to update my details re the car i drive for business mileage purposes.
I am cagey about doing this because a) i have never been asked to do this before and b) it contains my personal information (address etc) but also the previous owners and the bit i am most concerned about, the VIN number. A v5 in the wrong hands (regardless of car make/model) could be used for all sorts of purposes!
As it stands i am prepared to fax the small slip you get (v5c?)which contains my details and the reg number.
Any thoughts or am i being silly?

I suspect your employers have more personal information about you than that what is on a V5. I wouldn't worry about it.
Also who uses fax in this day and age, scan it and email it to them, put in a password protected zip file if concerned about someone getting hold of it.
