Potential new owner needs advice
Hi All,
Been directed here by a friend I currently own a Lotus Elise
Which I have just taken a deposit on and will be leaving me mid march
So I am interested in a Subaru specifically a STI WRX Type UK with PPP from around 05 ish
A few questions I have are
1) What is and how does the diff work
2) What kind of price am I looking at for a low mileage example of the STI WRX Type UK
This car has caught my eye http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3579689.htm
Is it fairly priced and a good example
Regards
Sam

Hi and Welcome
Very nice car and nice backdrop.
The centre diff allows you to split the front and rear torque making it more like a rear wheel drive car if you have rear bias.
The car you are looking at is on the tax bracket split if you buy a 55 plate you will be in the £260 a year tax . cars registered after 23 march will be be £445 a year. As a private sale I've seen those go for 7k or less on 54/55 plates with maybe a few more miles on the clock.
One owner sounds nice but doesn't mentioned if it was looked after does it have fsh . As you know from owning a performance car running costs aren't cheap and servicing can be expensive . The car in the ad would have needed a cambelt change last year which is vital.

As above mate, i'd definately go for the DCCD option on the Blobs. Nothing stopping you throwing £300 at a timing belt change once you get one just to be sure.
Welcome by the way

i'd say it's a bit expensive at 10k and it will still be around come march if he doesn't drop the price a fair bit 8.5k is more realistic in the current market, even though it's got low miles and looks nice, i'd keep looking, your fine up to 60k if it's been looked after.
You can pick one with more miles up for 6/7k at the moment, i have seen a spec d for 5.5k which is an sti without the big rear spoiler, and that would leave 3/5k for a 2.1 engine tuner rebuild which is what i would do if i had 10k to spend on one.
Whatever you decide to do just put a link up to any car your interested in and we will give our opinion.
You can get a lot of car for 10k.

I think the one in your pistonheads link is quite a bit overpriced, couple of months back I got an 05 sti ppp, 39,000 miles, 1 owner, fssh including cambelt for about £9,400.
Got mine from Hurst cars, Bedfordshire, run by a guy called Max, I've not checked his website lately but he tends to only deal in decent low milage cars and had a couple of 05 sti ppp's the last time I looked. Bit of a treck from Cumbria but worth it for the right car.

How about this one instead if you can stretch to the extra grand (and the higher insurance as it's a Japanese Domestic Market car):
