Default newbie advice

hi all, i recently bought a impreza type ra v limited on 1998 that had minor front end damage.

i am looking for opinions on what timing belt to buy and fit while i have the rad out and make my life easier!!

the car has had a new engine fitted 20k ago from roger clarke motorsport, on the paperwork it states engine code ej20, 0.50mm oversize pistons etc? im new to the subaru scene so will be looking for advice in all areas in the near future.

i am also curious how to fit a front bumper as when the car was returned the bumper was removed, and the used bumper i have bought is also in 2parts, bumper and metal support bar.

All help will be apreciated greatly

marc

Why would you want to replace the timing belt if its been rebuilt by RCM? They would have changed it so its not due for another 30-40k.

I would ring RCM and give the reg number, they will be able to tell you what was done to the engine etc.

If its only done 20k then I wouldnt worry but you could call RCM or check the reciepts and report back what belt they fitted. It would have been an expensive build so I wouldnt think it has a cheap belt on there.

Give us some details on the build/reciepts chap

this is what i was thinking, would rather spend a few quid doing it now, rather than spending 10x more if it snaps

thanks for your advice people

changing it would do no harm, if you have the money do it for piece of mind.

I think the Gates belt is favored unless you go for somthing like a cosworth kevlar or other performance item.

pulleys, tensioner ect would be on an inspection basis. If they look worn then replace, if not just do the belt.
