Its not the road it use to be unfortunately too many HGV's trying to take a short cut instead of using the M62, specs cameras on the quick bits, so I prefer the snake pass, just have to watch out for the cops doing their advanced driving there and there is a nice sandwich van on the bend with a car park
Good to cut across from the woodhead and over to Glossop then onto the snake, now thats fun

This isn't a million miles from where I am. I seem to remember you can cut across from woodhead to the snake via the 'Strines' I think that's what its called. I imagine that would be a good run in a scoob.
I'd try it but I need to pull my finger out and buy one...

Good routes, as is the balst up to the top at Holmfirth.
I used to do them in an Escort Mexico when there was little or no traffic at night: a pair of Cibie "Biode" headlights and 4 100W lamps, 2x Oscars and 2x Super Oscars.
Magic. Total of 620W of light, and my alternator was rated at 540W
