I don't know the seller but as said hes not saying silly hp. Even on a budget 2k for a newage wrx to get 280 is about right if you done bolt ons. He might have wanted big power and done the engine to start with then ran out of money, lost his job, got is wife up the duff etc
Compared to the usal ebay links we get on here seems like a pretty normal add

there was a classic for sale on ebay guy said had 320bhp i asked if he had a printout of it he said no but his mate had an impreza with 310 and his was faster

He's not stating a different turbo so 283 is about right what is the issue?

It's about the max for the WRX without new turbo but will make a great purchase for someone who wants to take it further. The only downside is (and I should know having lavished a fortune on my old WRX) is that with more power - better handling and certainly bigger brakes are needed. The brakes on a WRX running 225bhp are shocking enough - frankly they scare the hell out of you if running 270bhp+
