10 years old and first breakdown lol
Yep as title car is just about 10 ten years old 102,000 mile and first breakdown tonight. Am waiting for the AA to recover me home as we speak. O/E crankshaft pully has fallen to bits. I know its common for the dampered pulleys to go on bmw's. never heard off one go on a scoob though. Guess its a good time to upgrade to lightweight. cdf or similar.

Should have been done at 100,000miles/10years. Would have thought someone would have noticed condition of pulley.

Cam belt is done every year in April by myself. It has had a full season of sprinting plus road miles so im not to fussed its broken. Im sure the crank will be just fine as the centre of the pulley's still bolted up nice and tight to the crank. The bonding between the two parts of the pulley has simply seperated. Also im sure you would never tell from a visual inspection. they go when they go lol

Its not when your running more power than its designed for and sprinting it in competition to well out of design envelope. I'd rather a cam belt change every year than have more other expensive thing for the sake of belt failure. Remember all its costs me is parts and a couple of hrs of my time

No noise from mine that i heard. I was cruising along 30 or so mph kids in car etc. Loud bang and battery warning light and no power steering. Guessed it was the belt so switch all electric off i didnt need and kept on the move home. Nearly made it. i think had it been daylight i probably would have got home. Its a pain i had to wait for the AA. Had i not had kids with me i would have taken a cab to pic up my mates wrecker truck and dealt with it myself

Managed to get a better look this morning in the day light. Appears to be no other damage just need a new pulley and a couple of belts.
