I haven't got one and haven't used one but i've not heard fantastic things about them. Used a lot more in the states. I remember 'Dynoflash' (a tuner from America posting plenty of vids on youtube) saying negative things about them

I have one, but I've yet to run it...not the most fashionable Subaru solution and supposed to have a clunky mapping interface but they have excellent functionality for price; proper knock correction rather than detection is a high priority for me.
As TH3 5TIG says popular in the states and popular with the Evo kids over here too. Have a look on MLR and NASOIC.

from what i've been told the nock correction isn't ideal on it.
If you want it specificly for nock correction then syvecs is your only choice.

Negative comments about the HyDra normally come from people that can't or won't map them.
They are far from ****e and anyone that says so is a fool imo..... it is far from being the best ECU, but it does a good job from the perspective of many customers.
Richard Bulmer is probably the HyDra "god" in the UK and has always had great results from these ECU's. My old Spec C being one of many to have great driveability, ecu functionality, powerful and most importantly... reliable.
I had alsorts enabled on mine:
Launch Control
Anti-Lag
Twin Boost Maps
Twin Ignition Maps
Twin Fuel trims
Flat Shifting
All depends on what you want and whether it's feasible for you to use Richard Bulmer for mapping imo. He appears to be the only person in the UK that really knows how to (and will) map these ECU's effectively.

Speak with Richard Bulmer for what it can do, he designed and developed it, remembering that this is what he does as a job (note Toyota wrc), it's a solution that not many mappers like as it's really only Richard that does them, better than most out there and doesn't get as much praise as some of the cheaper options because of the cost.

Richard didn't design it.... although he has been involved in it's development.
As well as his Toyota WRC background, he used to head up MOTEC UK iirc. So he knows a fair bit about ECU's. lol

I have one on my v5 sti I was just wondering what peoples opinions on them was so I could decide if to keep or replace...as when I first start in a morning it stalls a couple of times and recently it seems to smell very rich and uses a far bit of fuel (more than it used to) maybe just needs tweaking

the usability was def mentioned, but as said depends whos mapping it, also something to do with how sensitive it is, aka picks up other noises that arn't nock and pulls back timing because of it.

i think depends how much you wanna spend, if you want best then syvecs is it, for less than that its a toss up between simtek, hydra, autronics etc etc etc
Personaly only one i would def stay away from is motec, too expensive for what it is.
