Default Mods for 05 Blob STI PPP-advice?

Hi,

Looking at modding my 2005 sti ppp very soon and wanted some advice/experience?
1)full rcm 3'' decat exhaust
2)HKS ssqv dump valve
3)Remap(jolly green monster)
4)induction kit?(not sure on make cosworth?/RCM? etc?)

not too concerned about BHP probably around 350+?
does anyone have any thoughts/opinions looking to spend £2-2.5k.

thanks

You are best off leaving the dumpvalve and induction kit in the garage as these wont help better the cars performance and instead buy uprated fuel pump ie walbro 255 and also a 3 port boost solinoid. I would also look at uprating the rear Arb and droplinks to whiteline stuff to help firm things up when going into the bends Also a good idea to better the braking performance.

What has already been done to the car?

For that level, you only need a green panel filter and cat back exaust if you want to see a few more bhp and not have problems with mot you could fit a sports cat and do away with the oem cat, you shoud get a bit more than 350bhp.

But if you really want to spend that much, i would change headers to ceramic coated, gt spec 2, mdt 321 turbo full decat exaust green panel or roger clark cone and remap should see you to 440bhp ish for similar money..

there is a set of headers in the for sale section and plenty of good turbos, you could save a bit of cash and still get way more than 350bhp.

Speak to simon at jgm, or duncan race dynamics who uses open source and costs way less as you don't have to pay for the ecutec licence ( £600 map or £300).

For £2500 you can get a lot more than 350 ish HP.
Best of luck, you'll have a fast road car after £2500, that for sure.

My 05 blob had a 2.5 decat, RCM cone intake, tube exhaust manifolds, and mapped by Engine Tuner. This set up made 340/340 on V power, so I think it's unlikely that you'll see more than 350 with the mods you state.
I agree with the above though that the standard intake is good enough at this power level, and leave the BoV in the box

Edited to add if you're spending £2500 400bhp is easily possible.

Oh and as above handling mods with the money saved, your calipers are fine but speak to ian at godspeed brakes about 2 piece disc's and better pads.

On the handling; anti-lift kit, anti-roll bar, rear drop links and lazer alignment will transform the way it handles..

Ps, i would not spend the extra cash buying RCM stuff for this level as it's only really of benefit if your future plans include going for 500+ bhp. Unless of course you want to name drop in the pub or have an RCM fetish..

You are very much mistaken if you think the only difference is the ecutek licence

Forget the chavvalve and induction kit.
Get a decent panel filter, new plugs and have someone that knows what they're doing remap it.
350ish

The STI ppp's came with the Prodrive sports cat and 2nd cat removed so a cat back would be fine unless te op is looking to spend on a complete new system.

It will cost more than 2.5k to reach 400+ with a safe and reliable spec especially when you factor in a specialist labour costs for fitting parts etc.

Also helps if we knew what kind of use the car will get as there is no point in going over top modding a 400+ car when op keeps to the speed limit and wont feel the full benefit of all that power. As he stated in first post he aint chasing numbers like most people on here...

That's good advice. When I first got MY03STI ppp only a few months ago I wanted 400+ but after being on this very helpful site and reading/learning as much as I can I am going for a nice 18g turbo and 360 ish I hope for a nice fast road car, as it is my daily driver.

Exactly, it's about usable power and i doubt many people want to risk their licence just so they can enjoy full boost

Indeed - don't go chasing numbers.
If he gets that car simply remapped now with a decent panel filter and new plugs, I guarantee that the difference between that and the PPP will be night and day

Been there, done that
After remap it will pull like a train from approx 2.5k all the way up to 6+
Currently with his PPP it will pull from 3.5-4K and it'll tail off at 5.5K

With what you have i would just start with,

Fuel Pump
New Plugs
3 Port BCS
Decent panel filter
Remap

Should be around £600 all in, This should see you around the 330-340 bhp mark and simaler if not a bit more torque on an 05 Sti, If you are wanting more then factor in new injectors as the pinks will be on max duty near or before 400bhp or get a FPR to raise the pressure(Personally i would get injectors), Your prodrive exhaust system now starts to become restrictive so that would need to be changed, Obvioulsy a new turbo(loads to choose from), Then depending on what your clutch is like that might need changing but you wont know until you try to drive it or find out when its getting mapped so this can be an unexpected cost(£500-£600), Then if you still want more it would be best to get a front mount and cold air feed, Then you`ve got the braking and handling(But not necessarly in the order listed, lol), It`s endless once you start.....

Personally i would go for the cheaper option with some chassis upgrades and decent pads and take it from there, Sometimes like its been said, It can be hard to use the power you have, I know the PPP states it should have 305ps /bhp but this is usually a little optimistic,

Gaz.
