Default Sti 5 spoiler genuine?

Bought an sti5 spoiler which I'm happy with but how can you tell if it's genuine or copy. It also has a Colin McRae saying on side.

Not sure what you mean by the colin McRae saying, but as far as genuine is concerned:
It MUST be moulded from ABS, NOT fibreglass or PU. And just saying ABS on it isn't good enough: they are all taken from a mould, so will say that in all probability, mine did and it was f/glass until I got a genuine one.

It will have the required number of fixings under it, but Im not sure if they are captive nuts or captive bolts.

Most importantly, the brakelight will be clear LED and will be fastened in by undoing two, (could be three), MACHINE screws, (not pointed, or self tappers, but properly threaded), which releases a cover UNDER the spoiler, then two more screws release the brakelight.

V5/6 had the clear LED Brake light.

"If in doubt....flat out" stickers can be bought from numerous places.

Any stringy bits, it's f'glass

How much you pay?

Are you happy with it, since if it was advertised as genuine, you should be due a full refund.

Mate, NO genuine ones were fibreglass, NONE! They are ALL made from ABS.

As I said earlier, the spoilers are made from a mould taken from a genuine one, so since the genuine one says "ABS", so will the copy.

If you can see "strings" it's f/glass.

Plus he's trying to muddy the waters by talking about genuine and import.

The GENUINE high spoilers were only available on imports, STi version 5 and 6, so to talk about Imports being fibreglass is bullcr@p, sorry.

He's trying to put one over on you.

hes trying to help you, all the copies have ABS on them since they are moulded from the orginal, fibre glass = copies, orginals are around £800 not £300

best bet is ask for a picture of the bottom, the part that fits to the car, you will tell by the fixings.

What should the fixings be?
