Default Water On Battery

Ok I'm a Newbie Scooby owner but logic dictates that water and batteries do not mix.

When I pop my hood there is always water on the battery.

A) Would this cause sporadic engine cutting out ?

B) Guess its coming in from air vent, should I just block it ?

I know it can slowly drain the power of battery but not sure about causing sporadic engine cut out.

Car? Model? Year?

There would have to be a HELL of a lot of water on your battery to cause a big enougfh "short" to make it cut out.

However, loose or corroded terminals will do it.

Classic, 1999

Getting it remapped next Friday as that is probably what is causing the sporadic cut outs (and getting maf sensor replaced).

It's a really small amount of water but just wondered (and paranoid)....

I doubt a small amount of water on the battery will cause an engine cut out. Furthermore it shouldn't cause any battery issue unless it's causing terminals to corrode as Alcazar has said. I would dispense with the vent though, it serves no purpose and in my opinion spoils the lines of the car. Does the car cut out whilst idling or does it do it on the move?

On the move when coming to a stop/coasting, only three times in the last two weeks but still

Hopefully remap will sort as running on standard ECU and it has a few mods inc:

3" Stainless Full Exhaust System
Induction Kit
SC36 Billet Turbo
Uprated Fuel Pump
STi 2.5 bottom end / red manifold
Dump Valve
Upgraded Brakes & Suspension
Full silicone hoses
Front Mounted Intercooler

Driving carefully and off boost as advised on here till its done by Jolly Green Monster next week.

Could be a fuelling issue when coming off throttle. A mapper should be able to identify the fault.

as above unless its corroding the terminals water on the battery case will do no harm. After all its is in laymens terms its a plastic box that stores energy in it.

Yeah terminals look fine, new car paranoia I think, hopefully remap should identify any issues and also get some real stats on performance, will post results up once its been done...

Well the pipe has been replaced with a blue pipe and there is a cut/tear in it not too far from the cap. Also does not look long enough to me, where can I get replacement ? Or can you sort Friday as well for me ?

@ Simon - I've used some insulation tape to seal the cut, should do the job ? Anyway you can have a look next week and advise

@ alcazar - You sure this would cause engine to cut ? Surely they could not sell them ?

I'm assuming the remap will sort this out if it was causing any problems with over/under fuelling ?
