Default NEED SOME SCOOBY ADVICE ?

Hiya all,

I have just bought a black subaru impreza WRX 2.0 turbo,
N-REG inport.....

I got this car cheap as the bottom end is knocking, this is the first subaru
I have owned, I'm going to drop the engine out and rebuild my block but while
I have the engine out, I really want to put forged pistons and cosworth head gasket..
I'm looking to have my engine running about 400bph if not more.

Can anyone please give me some good advice step by step on the route to take and what parts I should use, that would be brilliant...

Sorry if any of my spellings is wrong, I will add pictures and keep everyone updated on
My build. I'm more than happy to anser any questions about my car

Many thanks
Dean

WRX is not a great base to start with. 400hp in a classic. about £10K. dig deep fella.

im trying to get the same sort of power but using 2.5 semi close deck block (which is much easier) fully forged internal i have already spent over 5k so far, like BIGSINKY WRX isnt a great base to start with and if im not wrong you will need STi V3/V4 heads.
10k sounds about rite for the built ( i didnt believe that i would need that much but i do believe now) so be prepared.

people have this impression that classic cars are cheap to modify. they are if you want to do it half arsed. to do it reliably, they are NOT. Trust me i have been there. I started 9 years ago with a 95 import wrx. i would be embarrassed to tell you what i have spent on mine. if you want a genuine 400hp (not pub talk 400hp) then everything and i mean everything will have to change. engine, drivetrain, cooling, fueling, suspension, brakes the whole nine yards.

as has been said better to buy one already tuned.

Assuming the car is std then you have a huge amount of work and money to get to 400BHP for the reasons stated above.

Ask yourself why 400BHP and is it worth the expense to get there with an N reg car???

The money you spend will not see anywhere near the returns when you sell.

As Tx says sell yours and buy the one he linked to or stick in a STI engine ancillaries and ecu, refresh the suspension and brakes and just enjoy!

Cheers for all the comments I'm going to stick with the scooby I got. I have spoke to a mate lives near me and he has the same car, same year running 440 bph with the ej20 his got forged pistons and cosworth head gaskets ect... I said to him that I've been told that the ej20 block isn't a good starting point when thinking about forged pistons becouse the bottom end will go at that power, he said to me that he is using ACL race series bearing and his having no problems with his car, I think I need to know abit more about these cars before I start but I'm 100% keeping the car I got now as its got some good parts on it I just want the engine to run round 400 bph and I don't mind spending abit onit as its a working project but I dno if I should get a ej25 block and then get forged pistons and still use my ej20 heads or what I'm not sure helppp lol

believe me here you will have people that have tried and tested many many times before but if you still want to go for it then its your choice, like you said its a working project so keep us updated.
In regards to the cylinder heads from EJ20 can be fitted as it is but ideally you want the combustion chamber opened up to match the larger bore of the piston, for maximum power potential that is what i did to the heads from MY98. and if you are interested on V3/V4 heads let me know.

good luck mate

Shaks

What about a nice low mileage newage STI bottom end. Semi CDB and will happily run at circa 400. Match this up to some V3 heads plus all the other bits and bobs and you'll have a good engine.

It can be done as my last scoob was a 2 litre classic at 447hp, it just costs a lot!
