Havent a clue about the early sti. I think they came with a couple of different turbos dependant on year. The wrx will be a td04 same as you have already

Why not keep your current turbo and take that up near it's limit. Would be a nice power increase over standard and also be nice and safe'ish.

If you're running an MY99 or 00 you're remap will be ECUtek only, which will cost £550 if its never been done before. If you're running a full de-cat and its never been mapped the chances are its on borrowed time, or running well below par.

Injectors are pointless without doing the fuel pump so your supporting mods should be a walbro pump then proberbly upgrade to a VF35 turbo from a later Sti. Stock injectors are fine up to 350bhp.

300bhp is easily achievable on a late classic with an uprated pump, VF35 turbo, panel filter, 3 port solenoid and decent exhaust. I have this set-up with a front mount intercooler and i'm making 336bhp/300lb ft.

Wasnt the Sti Classic a TD05?

Which decat, theres several!

If you have a fully decatted system then you may need to put one on but if you have it mapped then its not wise to then change things. The map will be set up for your mods, so if you change parts you'll risk it running worse.

280 is achieveable on a td04 with just a panel filter, decat system, 3 port boost solenoid, walbro fuel pump and remap. The pump and 3 port run at around £75 so you only then need the cost of the map.

Unfortunately, with 1999/2000 year cars you can old get it mapped via ECUtek and part of the initial cost is the license (£150). The rest is mappers time which is around 2 hours. After that, any future map tweeks should be £75-150 depending on the mods added.

My missus bugeye only had a TD04, panel filter and decat system and ran about 200bhp as it wasnt mapped. I added a 3 port and walbro pump then Duncan at Racedynamix came and remapped it, on 95RON fuel and its a different car. Dunc says it should be around 270bhp, and would be over 280 if it was mapped on Vpower.

thats the centre cat, so you're only missing the turbo to mid cat. Seems an odd way to do it TBH, usually you'd remove the centre section and fit a straight thru midsection to the backbox then from the turbo have a sports cat or full decat.

Dont think it'll be running very well with how you have it because it sounds like you have a stock midsection in there. Does it have a stainless backbox? Maybe someone had a full system on there then put the midsection back in for the MOT?

Either way, i'd get rid of the midsection then go for a map, after you've put a walbro pump in the tank and a decent panel filter in the airbox or induction kit.

will the car be ok how it is for now with that set up so if i get a full decat and remap it will pass emissions then will it or do you still need one cat or sports cat in the system.
ye i think it was probely put in for mot as the car had just passed when i got it

I wouldnt advise running it for long like that mate, any changes that have been made should really have been supported by a remap or they will be having a negative effect.

Sports cat will help with emissions but if you're worried about it then ask the mapper to take this into account. Unfortunately, you cant get power without comprimising certain things so if 280 is your target then be prepared to get the wallet and spanners out.

I take it you didnt get much history with the car then? No idea if its been mapped already?

Classics were generally accepted as safe with no remap with a full decat. It was the fuglys and later where a remap was advised.

I know theyre the safer of the bunch but with the cocktail of de-cat/standard cat etc on the car its worth having it checked/mapped so its running to full potential, and safer
