From AutoCar on the 17th May 2000. The big scoop was that this was the new style Impreza due to be unveiled at British Motor Show a few months later, so what happened?? I really like it, and this pictures must have come from somewhere, so was this the original design or a complete fabrication or what?? I really, really like it...

Autocar actually had pictures of the real car, but were reluctant to induce mass widespread shock to the motoring world. They photoshop'd it into a... decent car.

Front end's really nice. Miles better than the bug-eyed look (even if the fog lights are a bit big)
Can't say i like the **** much, or the Focus wheel arches.

The pictures that all magazines use are based on real photos, that are photoshooped to remove the disguises that manufacturers use, to give a likely look of the new vehicle.
If you have a look here they got most of the details of the MY01 correct, look at the rear lamp shapes, the boot spoiler and the flared wheelarches. Obviously the roof line is out a bit, but I guess even Autocar couldn't belive that bug-eye look was for real. I remember them reporting that they had pictures of the cars with the bug-eyes, but didn't believe they would make production as they looked awful, and were just there to disguise the real cars look.
