Question

If a new scoob comes with this, does it mean to say that it has been sourced from the EU?

I sounds like a stupid question but 'Keyring Cars' offer their Sti, with a 3 year warrenty backed by Subaru Malta and with the EU Certificate, but reading their website it suggests that cars arriving at S'hampton docks have not come from Europe???

Here is a snippet from their site "delivery from Southampton (if your car is coming from outside the EC)".

Your thoughts...I'm a bit confused..

Thanx

As far as I know.. The certificate just means it has been made to conform to EC standards... ie its built to European specs and not Japanese ones...

To register a car in the UK that is less than 10yrs old, you must prove to the DVLA that the vehicle meets with UK standards of emissions and safety etc. New vehicles sourced in the EU are supplied with a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) to indicate that the vehicle is approved for use here without mofification, unlike a 'grey import' that has to go through an SVA test and modifications to fuel filler neck, fog light and possibly others before registration.

My EU sourced Impreza sti will arrive with a CoC and a large saving over the UK price but no Cat 1 and no tracker and no Type Uk badge

Malta is NOT in the EU so if the car is coming via Malta(assume so 'cos warranty is backed by Subaru Malta) then its NOT a EURO import. As such it may not be to the same EU & UK spec.
It may also affect your insurance so you better let them know.

Not 100% certain on the above so it would be worth you checking.

Just a thought but, if the warranty is backed by Subaru Malta, how do you go about claiming? is it the same as with Euro imports by registering with IM and then they sort it?

Good Luck with it...

I learn't most of my scooby knowlege on these forums!

My Euro import was sourced from Holland and is identical to a UK car apart from UK cars get:
1)locking wheel nuts
2)Cat 1 Alarm as standard
3)extra underseal
4)2nd & 3rd year warranty by IM

All the above are "added" by IM AFTER the car gets to the UK so there is NO reason why you can't do the same for very little money!

I used a dealer and they included a CAT1 alarm as part of the deal.

I would have a Euro import again for defo, but next time I would do it all myself and save even more.

Hi Guys - cetainly recommend the DIY approach - straight from Ypres in Belgium. Cost - 22,000 Euros.

My advice is to stick either to Belgian and Dutch sourced cars, or to the JDM route for an STi. You're opening a whole can of worms if you source from anywhere else.....

Try joining the importingimpreza list. Its gone very quite recently but there is still plenty of stuff in the archives.

When I imported a couple of years ago I also used http://www.carimporting.co.uk/ There still seems to be a lot of good info on there.

I WAS going to import (via Malta) from Keyring. I cancelled. My local dealer would not touch it from a service and maintenance aspect as it was not a European (EEC) import. I eventually got the dealer to within a £1000 of the import price and went for that.

All I urge is caution and going into you deal and subsequent service \ maintainance regime with your eyes wide open
