Following the slogan thread, I've always really wanted one of the Scoobydoo number plates and thought I'd get one...but I've just read this on the DVLA website:
So does this make it illeagal (sp?!) ?
Just wondering if anyone else had heard this or been pulled for having one of these number plates...just before I order mine!
Thanks,
Jen

Can other symbols (e.g. national flag, football team crest) be used on number plates?
No. Motorists can use the Euro-symbol but NO OTHER symbol on the number plate. The new regulations will set standards to ensure that number plates are legible. There is nothing to stop motorists using stickers to display regional emblems or messages on their cars, as long as they do not appear on the plate.

Jen,
Unfortunately, yes it does. For all cars registered using the new format of plates 'XXnn XXX', only plain or EU symbols with a blue section background. You definitely cannot modify the font, spacing or colours of the plate.
Any other users with the old style plates can get away with it, up to a point, but even those are borderline.
This is the first time that enforceable legislation has been available. The traffic boys are getting hotter on this.

Well, it would be for an "S" reg car, and the graphics would be like this:
But with a Scoobydoo underneath or the whole blue bit i.e. not the Euro stars...I think a few others have this - Salsa king has a dancing scooby?
Thanks for the advice Neil! Maybe I'll have a bit more of a think...

Jen,
As it's the 'old' style I would say go for it, doubtful that traffic would give a monkey's about that, they look out for anyone making the plate difficult to read i.e. font changes or movement of the letters/number to form words.
The new ones are a different situation, they have been asked to clamp down on these.

divecon - I have a new style plate on an old style car.
The spacing, font etc has not been altered so I don't think they are too bothered. Have had a fair few coppers behind my car too
[Edited to dodge any 'coppers behind' puns]

Thanks for your opinion Neil I kinda hoped they weren't clamping down on the old ones... good to have it confirmed.
I won't be fiddling with spacings or fonts, so it shouldn't be that noticeable...

Jen - where have you found that will supply the badged plates like the Scooby Doo one that you are after? I had been looking at gtgrafix but they say they've stopped supplying them cos' the changes in legislation.
