I had one done by the AA on a Saab and the guy who was selling the car said they were very thorough and took around three hours.

I would say they have been known to miss things... In general you're often much better off getting an inspection by a specialist, eg Scoobysport, TSL etc if you can. The RAC/AA checks are ok, but there is only so much you can do on someone's drive with limited tools. They tend to be good for spotting accident damage though.

Lumby

I had an RAC inspection on a Scoob about a month ago, and was very impressed. I have subsequently bought the car, and haven't found anything they missed. Its also worth noting that both RAC and AA will only do the more expensive of the two inspections they offer, on cars such as Scoobs, but the RAC are currently offering One years breakdown cover (normally £40) for a quid if you book their inspection. (Not an employee ..etc)
Having said all that, as Polarbearit suggests, if I could have got a specialist to the car I would have, its generally cheaper and they know what they are looking for.

Good luck
