At the risk of getting SERIOUSLY flamed, I thought the Type R was the fastest accelerating. Performance Car Magazine tested a standard one at 4.3 seconds to 62mph so I read. Down to the close ratio box and they may be slightly lighter being a 2 door ??

p.s. I admit I'm biased as I own a V4 Type R
p.p.s. In no way is this intended to be an idiot "My car is better than your car" post.

Depends on model. Yes some are basically stripped out racers for group N spec rallying. Mine is one of the last of the classic shape and is a sonic blue WRC Ltd version (1 of 1000) and has light blue alcantara seats with the yellow Subaru logo on them and blue centre console, blue dial surrounds and alloy pedal extensions, as well as all round electric windows, central locking, air con, abs, electric mirrors, folding electric mirrors and a short ratio box . It didnt come with a stereo or speakers soon added though . No underseal but again this was done as well. Also RA have very little sound proofing and no side or rear bolt on skirts.

I like it especially with the after changing the exhaust and adding 18"s. Due to gear ratios not really a motorway cruiser more of an A or B road car.

Cheers

Scoobymann the RA has the same ratios as the type R but the RA is lighter when in standard trim ie all the kit is removed (unless like mine all the kit is back on ), standard spec has no electic windows, air con, lightened boot (I think) and rumoured of special lightweight glass, no skirts, no ICE and no sound proofing. You are looking at 1200kgs or less for a standard spec RA. A Type R is 1285kgs as least I think.

Maybe wrong though .

Nah, when I think about it you're probably right about the RA.

I guess I'll have to console myself with only having the second fastest standard Scoob with a 0-62 of 4.3 secs. Don't know how I'll cope ......

All the best with yours, enjoy mate !

I used to have one, an Sti 2 Type RA. This one I know weighed 1200kg, but from memory (and I can't remember the site I saw this) with each successive generation the cars got heavier, and the gearing slightly longer. Hence my Version 4 Type R, although having the short gears, has noticeably longer gearing than the version 2 RA did (thank God!!). That was one tiring car... A late model RA, without all the bits, would weigh more than 1200KGs I think, maybe 1240. All of the old shape Scoobs were wonderfully light though!!!!

Welcome aboard!

I bought the Sti5 Type RA V-limted because i thought i had a better chance of keeping my licence (short gearing so 100mph is "comfortable")

Regular Sti are "comfortable" at 120mph so i knew i'd end up with a licence sporting a Welsh accent when it came back.

In my opinion it's the best of the lot (specially having just tested the new Sti!) Raw, mean, very quick, looks the mutts and brilliant fun.

If you go near Scott's car with a ***, he's likely to poke you in the eye and then run you over with another one of his cars, not wanting to do anything to scar the Subaru.

Just want to add that thing is a missile, and I can't wait for my lottery jackpot win, so I can relieve him of the burden of driving the beast.

Nice to see so many replies, I only started it as I felt left out .

ScoobyMann I have to confess I went out looking for a Type R V-Ltd but came back with an RA . Just how it went I saw it and liked it, I am sure if it had been a Type R then I would be driving one right now. Funnily enough the garage had it listed as a Type R but when I turned up they didnt know the difference . The salesman had a quick course on scoobs models after I ROFLMAO when he told me it was full UK spec . Actually he was a good bloke but was use to selling astras, fiesta, escorts, vectras etc. and this was his first impreza. Dont think he had as much trouble selling his second one, UK spec MY98 with one careful owner

cheers

Refro

Arboo

he he

Type RAs are very special cars, closer in kin to 22bs than Type Rs, mine has over and above the standard Type R parts:
Uprated Differentials LSDs front and rear
Uprated shocks
Uprated gearing although they are shorter than a Type Rs they are also stronger.
The quick rack ala 22b, makes a massive difference.
Strenghened internals
Closed deck block
Lighter Panels think its 100kg lighter

With the other mods mine has had done it reaches 60 less than 4 secs and a ton under 11.

Gunna be an article on it in Jap P mag in july oh and poster me thinks
