Default Turning a classic wagon/saloon into a track car.

I'm looking at getting a classic and turning it into a track car, but would want to be able to drive to and from the track so i have a few questions.

How much in regards to interior can i remove to allow it to pass an MOT?

Have seen a classic wagon on a P reg 97 which is nearby and is at a good price, i remember something about ECU's from certain MY cars are non mappable. Which years would this be?

Also in regards to the wagon, on the newage model things like ARB's aren't changeable between wagon and saloon is this the same for the classic wagon?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Interior - All of it. As long as it has belts a proper seats, working lights and horn ect.
MY98 are the totaly non mapable cars.
I am almost certain that the rear ARBs are different on classic waggons to saloons.
Hope this helps

That's a great help, Are the MY98 the first of the facelift models as the one i'm looking at is pre-facelift?

It varies, most MY97 and some MY98 cars are not mappable. Rule of thumb, if it comes with facelift bonnet, non crystal facelift headlights and pre-facelift everything else as standard chances are it'll have the non-mappable 8S ECU. An ECU change will be needed to allow re-maps.

Never realised it was some 97s as well.

To the OP 97/98 is the change over years. The cars I have seen have the facelift bonnet but with the non facelift front bumper with the three slats on it.

As a rule means non mappable.

This is the one i saw, auction ended without a bid so will try and see if i can get a bit off the starting price but i think it matches what your saying about the facelift bonnet and non facelift other parts.

Can an ecu from an earlier model be put in it's place and have that remaped?

Coil pack in centre is the giveaway there

You can't substitute another Impreza ecu either!
