Default Hi newbie stumbling at the first hurdle

Hi there I'm new here and would like to introduce myself my names Thomas and I'm living on the isle of Wight. I'm 24 and currently don't have a car. Sold it yesterday. I've found a wrx wagon that I like the look of. It's a 1993 import and has a thatcham cat 2 immobiliser. I've been on the comparison sites and the insurance is horrendous. £1583.79 . I have 5 years ncb and live in a low crime rated part of the country. Is there any companies that would do cheaper as I would love this car but I'm not paying that much on insurance. Thanks in advance for your help regards Thomas

Hi Thomas, welcome

Your best bet is to check out the insurance section on the forum here. I would guess the Cat 2 alarm is not helping with many companies likely to require a Cat 1 system. Check out that section, do a search and if you need any more help I'm sure someone will help you

For a start don't go near the comparison websites! There fine if you drive a Ford Mundano but for a scooby you need a specialist.

To give you an example when my renewal was due a couple of months back I put my details in 'comparethemarket.com'. My quote was over 10,000 pounds

I renewed with Adrian Flux for 400 odd!

Thanks guys I'll give Adrian flux a ring in the morning and hopefully get a cheap rate. Would they take into account that I've driven turbo cars before? My last insurance was on a modified rover vitesse sport they are 200bhp standard so hopefully they will see I'm not a fool. Thanks again your advice has been invaluable

Adrian flux for me was the cheapest! It's still 1800 quid lol But seeing as there was a total of 4 companies who would insure me i had no choice.

I don't really see it as a huge amount of money as one of the lads on site just insured his 1.1 Saxo for 4.5k!

Aviva was the cheapest for me at 40 years old and still pricey at £454

How much is the car up for? Maybe look for a UK spec car

Don't get a wagon for one unless you need it for work or you have family. Try quoting for uk 2000 turbo as they should come out cheaper.

Wrx imports do come out more exspensive. What reservations you have?

What's the problem with having a wagon?

Like I said before, maybe look for a UK spec car

Its an estate, why would you want an estate out of a choice between that or a saloon?

Because they are cheaper to buy normally, but have no difference in the performance aspect lol

Coolant was leaking but now ok. Over heated once but when I went there it was ok running for about 20 minutes. Then my dad had a word with a mate from work and he says it's a goodun as he checked it out thoroughly and was ok. Sorry if it doesn't sound right I have a huge headache just thinking and thinking.

There will always be another car mate if this one isn't right. It can be stressful buying, but hopefully you'll enjoy the experience as well. Post up any cars you spot as I'm sure plenty of members here will offer advice.

Theres not that much diffrence in price, and there not the best looking impreza, as i said if you have family or need for work makes perfect sence, but when people buy then spend money adding spoliers, nice alloys, etc that i don't get, its a practical car you can have fun in, but it wasn't made for looks.
