a bloody fourtune £ 000's

for me I've got two of the best sounding engines you can get.
A 4 ltr v8 in the tiv & a 2.5 ltr boxer on a 3" striaght through on my impreza.
And that as the advert says is "priceless"

Child hood dream to own one, guess you got to take the good with the bad with them. Any tips when buying one?

The thing with TVR's is you expect them to be trouble, so you have the right frame of mind to own one. In truth the money I've spent has been on new suspension, and extras. If you ever decide to buy one be prepared for old fashioned driving and get someone who knows about TVR's to look at it, as they could be a moneypit, just like a scooby really.
But you get the top down and open up that v8, there ain't nothing like it.
The funny thing is I didn't drive my scooby for a couple of months , had to replace all discs, god how fast was it .
Fantastic

Thanks for that, so no major mechanical issue to speak of just mods, have been looking at a few of the tvr specialist companies who offer 12 months warranty, worth paying the extra depending on what the warranty actually covers.

Cheers

mechanically the v8's tend to be bomb proof if properly serviced, I have had the cam replaced as it was a little worn, but other than that they are fine.
The ECU's are pretty crap so get used to weird tickovers and stuff, having said that it starts first time everytime. everything seems to knock and bang with no explanation but seems to be par for the course. The electrics are known to be wierd in the extreme but touch wood mine have been perfect,
if you want peace of mind get one with a warranty but for me I'd go for one that has had all the work done and save the premium for a warrantied car to get work done.

That's a fair point, just stuck on which model, the cerb or tuscan, love the look of the tuscan but the peace of mind of the ajp v8 hmmm oh and the sound.....oh why did they not put a v8 in the tuscan although the 6 does sound good but not on par with the v8

Choices choices, bet I end up with another impreza lol

if you're going with either of those then forget what was just written about reliability!

i've had tvrs as well, and also had no problems whatsoever, but they were based on the trusty rover v8 as per above.

the speed 6 engines are shocking for reliability, and the cerbera isn't a huge amount better from what i've heard...

you have to remember that those cars were the first ones that tvr made without using parts from other manufacturers... and are therefore a bit more touchy!

as was said - you have to have the right mindset to drive one. approach it with a sense of humour and occasion (and a spare car!0 and you'll be fine... if you're planning to use it as a daily then i'd run a mile personally....
