Default Fooked ebay engine

A friend of mine runs a small garage that amongst other cars caters for a lot of Subarus here in Dorset. He was asked to replace the bottom end in a Type R(big end failure) for some guy who had purchased an STI 8 bottom end from ebay for which he paid £500 for.

The original engine was removed and all stripped down ready for the replacement. Before worked started my friend removed the "new" bottom end from the crate and turned it over by hand.....It made a donk noise, so he removed the sump to find No2 rod flapping about!

The guy who owns the type r contacted the ebay seller, he was basically told to fcukoff and that the engine was fine when it left him!

The seller is apparently a SN member.....Obviously a paypal dispute has started but i wonder if the pikey seller has the front to reply to this thread?

This seems to be happening all the time.

I hope he gets his money back.

Another thread that highlights a 2nd hand engine may be cheaper than a rebuild but not everytime

paypal will refund. They always side with the buyer.

Advertise a duff engine on Ebay, buyer pays via paypal, seller withdraws the money, buyer starts dispute and 2 weeks later gets a refund and the paypal account is 500 quid overdrawn?

Is it just me or is there a flaw in the system?

paypal have their own systems in place for getting the money back should the seller withdraw the money, and it usually involves just tracing the money to the bank account it was removed to and the legal action. - from what i've been told anyhow.
