Testdriving a car
Stupid question really
Been looking as you do on the interweb at cars and i wouldnt mind having a look at focus st's and a astra vxr or even a corsa vxr or clio 197.
Currently drive a civic type r (ep3)
But was just wanting to have a nosey and a drive as i dont know if id regret a move to one of these
Every car ive testdrove i pretty much buy but want to itch my curiousity really after a drive do you just say i dont like so i dont get harrased by phonecalls blah blah blah
Strange question really but got a week off work and weathers crap

I test drove a few cars recently before settling on my spec d
Just be honest with them and tell them you want a proper drive to get a feel for the car before you make your decision.
Ask the youngest salesmen they are more likely to let you have a spirited drive

Before I bought my first scoob I was thinking if a fiesta st I know no real comparison I couldn't get a test drive by being honest and stating that I was interested in the fiesta but needed to drive it before making my mind up, they wanted me to say I wanted it subject to a test drive and wanted a deposit, went to Subaru dealer they just gave me the keys, ten minutes later after driving it I knew the fiesta was a no brainer. So I would say depends on the dealer.

i had an Astra VXR before my scoob nice car.
Only issue i had was
No good for Kids too small in back and 3 door
When you popped it in reverse your hand/gearstick scuffs passeger seat
But nice car, fast too, BUT id say not much better on fuel than my new STI Saloon,
I didnt like the Focus ST lad at work had one didnt feel that fast but was nice n big inside
I do like Clios they are always quick as fack

I had the type R civic 03 plate loved it, loads room in back also, but yes 4 seats.
Thing is, test drive them and test em out, your call in the end, I just know from how i feel 3 doors are nicer looking, and your kids are a wee bit older than my youngist, so easy for them to get in and out, But youll know getting a child seat in a 3 door and faffin about is a ballache,
And my eldist is 17 dropping her off and not having to get out the car is great LOL
im unsure what ya budget is but if u want some little hot hatch for a family id probably look at a SKODA ( gulp ) VRS or most possibly a GOLF Gti
